Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Cattley guava

Mine is fruiting now also. I can send seeds if you still need them in a month or so. D

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Andreas in early June. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I can say that he was a really good guy with a passion for his plants. He kept his plants healthy enough that he had some things that we don't consider cold hardy at all that came back from their roots after our 12ish degree multi day freeze. I was impressed.
I will miss him. Elouicious....keep me informed re the botanical tribute. I think that is very appropriate. I will be of help with it. D

104
Then I guess I'll have to try the greens! Thanks, D

105
Thanks Spencer. That's a lot of good info. Is there any nutrition left after such a long cook time? I tend to think the ones I have are just for tubers. I'll probably just use them that way, but watch for other varieties. D

106
How do you tell which varieties of taro are for greens and which are for the tubers? I bought some small tubers at the grocery store a couple of years ago and have a bunch of plants now. I assume these are not for greens based on how they were sold, but how would I know without risking a thousand needles in my throat? Thanks, D

Mine is still small. It is a root sucker from a tree that is in roughly zone 6. I intend to plant it out this coming Fall. My trees suffer from the Summer heat more than a normal Winter. Regards, Dan

They should be fine. I was given root suckers from a tree planted outside without protection in Illinois. D

Rain water is awesome for your plants. It has all kinds of ion exchange and polarity wizardry going on. Use it to make compost tea as well! D

110
Thanks y'all. Got it on order. D

111
Will these root? Thanks, D

I don't know Rodney. Never had it before. If you have some you like I'd certainly or trade for some. Regards, Dan

113
Anyone have this to trade or sell?
Thanks, Dan

Hi John, I would argue that both of those contribute to freedom though.....  :) D

Silversapote, Thanks for the insight into the taste. I'll be looking forward to it.
My little Pringle's had a quickly rigged frame put in it which was intended to contain a heat lamp....but the power was off for at least 5 days. Not just rolling blackouts, but a pole actually fell, and we weren't top priority. So it seems to have survived multiple days of close to single digits. I wish my satsumas were as hardy.

Hi Benoit, we won't know for sure about some of the citrus for several weeks. Most of it is dead. I haven't heard about avocados yet. Mine are all small and were sheltered. I got mine from John Fairey as well. It seems to be fine. I have not tasted any fruit yet, but was told they are good. Contact John Fairey Garden about seeds. Regards, Dan.

bs - If you have no time for my statements then don't waste my time or yours. You did not, as far as I can see, post ANYTHING when Brad started an avocado meetup notice. It was on Feb 21. Anyone can look for themself. Just in case you lost track of time, I do remember you being obnoxious when he posted something similar a year or so ago.
We both live in states that are wide open. Everyone is free to choose masks or not. Get over it.

Awesome! I'm sure several will want to. Everyone can take any precautions they want. Looking forward to it! Let's p.m. D

Funny. I didn't see you talking your garbage when Brad Spaugh said exactly the same thing. All hail the bs hypocrite!
I really appreciate your insight about plants and trees, but I have no use for your social crap. How many masks do you wear? 2? 3? What does this have to do with fruit? Can we stay on topic?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Houston, TX growers meet up?
« on: March 30, 2021, 07:37:18 AM »
Hi Folks, Before the whole covid thing started some of us were talking about getting together to swap plants, stories and maybe lies about plants... I think it's time we move on. I suggest we set a time early this Summer and proceed. I'm as done with masks as Brad, but if a mask makes someone more comfortable wear away! Anyway, it might be best to take this to p.m.s so we don't waste everyone else's bandwidth. Let me know! D

Silversapote, my leaves look more like gregeii than pringlei  as well. Maybe a maturity issue? I don't protect mine from Sun or heat at all, unlike several other plants I try to grow. Give it some water and it's good. D
