Best tasting mangoes in S. Florida?
« on: September 13, 2021, 09:32:14 PM »
Been wondering what some of you think are the best tasting and producing mango varieties here in south Florida? I have a few older trees and have started some newer ones. Currently have Angie, Bombay, orange sherbet, lemon zest, Pickering, nam doc mai, cotton candy pina colada, mahacanook, alfonso, pineapple pleasure, Tommy Atkins, three unknown varieties, and just ordered a peach cobbler and guava from tropical acres for spring.

Man goes

My mom planted it years ago, I’m not a fan, honestly been thinking of doing a big chop and grafting into it. The fruit takes so long to ripen that the squirrels hollow them out. Add to that the danger of one of them taking you out if it falls on you.

You're missing the latest superstar, Sugarloaf.  Zinc also has a great flavor.

Be very careful and mindful of what you sow, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Add forum search feature
Lol, I know I was guilty of asking a few questions that had already been well run into the ground when I first joined. Something should be added to the preamble when a member signs up about the likelihood most questions have been asked before and instructions on using the search feature.

Threads spanning years and pages upon pages of comments might be intimidating/frustrating for someone who just wants a quick answer, but I have enjoyed reading through them on here. Especially questions like this current topic, you can find threads going back to 2012 trying to answer this; what they said back then is very interesting to read. Safe to say the Tommy Atkins hate is not a recent phenomenon.

I tasted TA for the first time in the early 1970's.  It was hate at first bite.
