Hi folks, just wanted to let you know that male tress we ordered do not have problem. Somebody reported that the scion(the branch sitting in the middle of tree)fell apart, or was not wrapped tightly with its root stock. But the tree is still ok, since the scion is female. The two side branches are male, as long as those two side branches are healthy, we are fine.

Thanks for confirming my sneaking suspicion the male trees were failed female grafts!

Thank you so much Bill for putting all of this together, really a feat and hopefully good step toward popularizing the fruit in this country!

These are truly important plants.
1. Cause they’re  BAREROOT and we need to revive them and.
2. Cause we got to have the fruit!
For this reason I am compelled to share this:
For those who are potting…an old gardener’s trick to increase survival, add a Worm to your pot. Just a tip for contemplation.

I hadn't noticed, but my TK male (the only male I ordered) has the graft missing, what I have is two large suckers that grew out for sometime they grew out of the base, I am hoping the rootstock is still male.

What are my options getting a pollinator? Can native Myrica pollinate Yangmei? myrica californica perhaps?

Second this- worms are great in pots-

also did a dilute seaweed soak on the plants to reduce transplant shock

I’ve always thought worms were good because worm castings are great but I heard John Travis in a video say that too many worms in a pot can make the soil get mucky but that’s also for Florida climate. I release worms into newly planted in ground trees. I think mycorrhizae is great for potted stuff to get some life in the soil but worms will make great castings to feed the plants

The weather here will reach to 40 for couple day.  I don't have a green house so I covered them for protection.  How is everyone is doing with them.

From what I read online, the trees can hardle to 5 for short period of time.  I covered them up to keep them warmer and hope for better chance of survival.

Yes, but the trees that handle those temps are most likely established

Yeah one of trees has a few small leaves that came with the tree still atrached. I wrapped all the trees in parafilm when I received them.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Roots probably will grow before you see new growth. Might be a while.

Kelly G reports that he is getting some buds to push on his yang mei so I went out and looked at mine and the Dong Kui looks like buds are pushing. Much much faster than the first time.

Folks,
I received many inquires asking whether we can have another group order.
Based on this situation, I created a tentative order page. I am not very sure if we can make another 500 this time. If you  have missed in the first one or you like to add more, please feel free add your request in the new thread( see the URL below). It's just tentative, we do not let you pay first until we can make it.

In the new group order, a new variety Black Diamond( also known as Charcoal) is added. The trees will be 4 year old, bigger than those in the previous order and with larger root, the price will be $45 each.

Thank you all,

Hello everyone.  Any updates on success since last week?  The second 2022 Yangmei group order is now closed and should kick off soon.  Would be nice to see what methods were successful with the first 2022 order here.  As time moves forward and temps continue to warm, we should see some trends in what methods worked best.

It already seems promising but hopefully the success rate on this order is very high in comparison to the original order that was heat stressed.

Thanks!

Yup, 8 of my 9 are pushing full leaves now! Only one, a Biqi is not pushing and not sure how it's doing. Excellent plants. Hope this new batch, since they are bigger, are just as or even more amazing! Getting the 2 new varieties listed.
