We always use activated compost tea with trichoderma and micros as foliar. Helps with fungal problems, too.Can you disclose procedure of how to make activated composed tea that proven work for you?
I just order heating mat to warm bottom of the mango pots in winter. Do you think it will encourage more growth in winter? Winter here in Oxnard is right around 41 degrees at the lowest.I did start them in 1gal pots and bumped them up once, I think, before they went into the ground. I just used cheap potting soil from Rural King and they grew fine outside. They were brought inside for the winter (I was living in an area where the winters were colder). I kind of ignored them and they grew fine. From what I read and watch YouTube (Thai blog channel), all mangoes are air layered then Add tap root from seedlings grow next to the newly planted tree.
Were the mango trees in Thailand mostly from seed or were they grafted?

. I like to know too, why store mango die after planting? I germinating 20+ store bought mangoes now. They are altofo, Keitt, Kent, and one other variety... I'm from Oxnard,CaliforniaNever use garden soil on mangoes in cold climates. I grow many varieties. Rootstock is very important that will make your tree successful or not, the way of root pruning and grafting method as well.
You can start a potting mix by 50% sand river, 10% perlite, peatmoss 25% and coconut husk 15%.
If you grow a mango from a store bought fruits, I would unfortunately say it's a waste of time sooner or later it would die.
omg WHY WOULD IT DIE
I am growing two seedling Pim Seng Mun trees. They came from the same seed (there were four sprouts total). I got the seed from a mango tasting, where the Pim Seng Mun and Bailey's Marvel were my favorites.Beautiful plant. Did you germinate the seeds in little pots first then replanted them later in the ground? It's my first time trying to plant mango from seeds. They are in one gal. pots. So I like to get as much infos as possible. I mail ordered Okrong Tong and Kiew Sa Voy trees years ago, but they last only one season dued to inexperience at planting. Now I like to give it another shot. It would be great if you can give me some tips on how to care for them after they put out their first set of leaves.
The leaves of the two seedlings, when cut or crushed, smell like the fruit from whence they came, giving me hope the fruit will be similar or equal to the parent. The fruit was my introduction to Thai mangos. It was not overly sweet, it had a slight spicy, even carroty taste, and I was an immediate fan. I kept going back for more samples at the tasting.
I planted the seed in 2017 and hope in a couple years the seedlings fruit.
How different are the sub-varieties in Thailand? Have you yet had Pim Seng Mun grown in the US?
Here's one of my seedlings:
I do not, Lovetoplant. But you can check the Buy/Sell/Trade section for scion sellers (Tropical Acres Farm/Squam256 comes to mind). Good luck! Thanks. By any chance you happen to grow PIM-SEN-MUN mango variety? Like to know the taste. So many sub-varieties of this mango back in my homeland, Thailand. So I like to know what we have got here in the U.S.
Would love to see pictures of espalier mango trees. I presently espalier Cherimoya, plum, and peach trees due to running out of grow spaceI use an acre for appox 150 mangoes 30 avocados 15 lychees and 15 atemoyas....all are 6 meters apart so that I can drive the ute through the trees..... qld dpi in mareeba are doing trails on mango trees at only 2.5 meters apart with success.....
Do you mean 6ft apart? i have seen espalier mango trees kept this way and productive as well.
I've got about 0.7acres and my land is fast becoming chockablock with trees and shrubs and vines.you ever sell your mango scions? Now I have just started to germinate mango seeds. Hopefully I can get them to survive winter season here then I can buy some scions to graft on to them seedlings.
I've got just over 20 mango trees, a couple canistel, a guava or two, newly planted jackfruit seedlings, suriname cherries, sapodilla seedlings, a bunch of pigeon peas growing like weeds, papayas, coffee, and a whole lot of stuff I'm forgetting.
When will reed and holiday be ready in Oxnard CA?Brad, I feel like your attacking my manliness (Lol). Hey, no one ever called me lazy in the yard; instead, I get in trouble for getting after it too much. But, yeah, there's something about this banana tree that's intractable for me. It's rooted into a bunch of river rocks, bounders, brecia, maybe some cement. I'll give it another go. I assume digging all the surrounding pups will have some damage on the roots of the one or two I want to maintain. I'm sure they'll bounce back in time though. Thanks. Our clay sucks. I had a really thick mat I spent ALOT of time on last year. Pick. Shovel. repeat. now I have one or two popping up again and need to get at it. Previous owners used to grow bananas for leaves and it's some variety that never fruits.
Naysen, how are your avocados doing this year? Mine are hating the sun. I've been working longer hours so haven't had time to address them, and it's too hot by the time I get outside but I need to paint/spray them with surround for the third time this year. Looks like they are liking the night time temps but this 100+ every day is rough
Mine fruited early, but we are into the Persians now, so I don't even think about Pakistani.Persian has a better taste? I have heard fruits are easy damage and messy
I am excited that the weather is finally looking safe to pull all my containers out of the greenhouse and clean it up.Hello, will the plants grow better and faster if you leave them inside the greenhouse in summer or They like it outside the greenhouse in summer weather?
