Perhaps you should turn the question around to how do you fertilize (or not) lawn close to a fruit tree.
Add irrigate too.

I suggest this because depending on which variety, you may want less N than you would want on your lawn and possibly less water too.

Yes I only fertilize my lawn once in late winter afraiding that too much nitrogen will promote vegetative growth for my matured trees(Asian pear trees and Fuyu) instead of fruits.  I like to fertilize the grass 2 times, but don't want to mess up my trees

Red speckles also show on Feurte avo too.  It appears all avo flushing red leaves.  Brad?

Not sure if all the same tree, but the lowest photo looks like my lamb hass I bought. The wiggly leaf edge is what I am noting is the same.

Kaz, wow lucky you to have such great soil without amending it.  My soil is sand/dust like textured.  If I don't water it for a few days, water will form beads on top of it when start to water again. Besides that we have high water table where we live.  My trees tap roots are just sitting in the water with heavy rain or sucking sodium up when drought starts.

Only dragon fruits, and citruses seem to do well at our yard.

My seed grown Florida Honey fruits are starting to taste sweet and juicy now.  The fruits were very light a couple of months ago, but now they start to fill up and have some weight.  This is her second year of fruits production after started from seed 11 years ago.  Amazing how time has passed, seems like yesterday...

Diana, I don't do much fertilzier on my fruit trees, I should probably give it some this year. They are lucky if I water them a few times a week. Yes, I do notice the Sakip is a vigorous grower and it does have a lot more flowers than the Kohala. Last year was the first year it fruited and it had a large cluster of fruits. I hope this year the fruits get larger than the Kohala. I did get some of those bigger longan fruit scionwood but my grafts died so I will need to try again.

Kaz it seems every fruit trees' photos  you post all yield hefty fruits, very healthy and probably delicious.  So what amendments you added to the soil yearly beside only "lightly" fertilizer use.

 I talk to my trees all of the days that I am not working, water a lot and add all kind of fertilizers, including all amendments and they hardly produce the fruits.  Plus the fruits taste not that great either.

I used to buy a whole pallet (like 63 bags) at a time when I had my old house with 25 fruit trees.  It would be used up by August.

Wood chips are color added.  Will they be okay to use on edible fruit trees?

Lovetoplant, I just hear from people who purchased many cuttings of my White Pakistan cuttings that their grafts did not take. It is one of the more difficult/touchy one of the mulberries to graft. I'm pretty sure if you had a fresh one (like graft it on the day it was cut) it will do better. I try many grafts myself to make sure it will graft ok. I did more than 20 grafts from my large tree and grafted to some rooted cuttings (Shangri La and Black Pakistan) and only got like 6 grafts to take and grow fine. You can use any graft method, some people like the whip & tongue because it has the most contact of the cambium, I just use same size rootstock to scion and use cleft graft.

So, because the White Pakistan (at least the one I have which is on the dwarf growth habit) is so difficult to graft if it is not immediately grafted on the same day, I stopped selling cuttings since the people who buy them will be disappointed even if I give them plenty extras.

In the future, I think I have a source for some good rootstock so I will buy more and graft the difficult ones like the White Pakistan and my rare Sangue e Latte and sell the grafted plants to share with our members here.

In fact, once my Sangue e Latte branches grow a little more this year, I will try to have another contest for a Free Grafted plant. This will be at the end of summer.

Thank you guys for all the useful informations and the suggestions. The plant flushed lots of new leaves; I must have added too much urea like Brad mentioned, to the fish emulsion when foliar sprayed.  These might have attracted the aphids.  Will hose them down with water daily.

This awesome and fun.  We should do this often.  Too bad I do not grow loquat(I hope this is a loquat) otherwise I would join the game. This loquat looks delicious.
