Wanted to mark that it’s flowering again. This year I’m manually self pollinating it. Done 7 so far. Couple a day.

Shane, have you grown any of the seeds out of your crosses? Nice work keep the crosses going!

I tried last year, but none germinated. Not even the selfs. I think my technique is bad.

5 years for mine. But i don't know if that was necessary. It flowered as soon as it found my yangmei and grew up through it and dropped down the other side. Just on the face of the fence wasn't working i'm guessing.

Nice Ben! Not what mine look like either in size or color.

On the self pollination, I got 50% take. 5 out of 10. Will pay attention to time of day for the next batch.

All ripe now.

Fruit is very sweet.. Pleasant but with no acid balance. Tastes like dilute cool aid. Got 10 fruit from manual self polination.

I ate one this year in Mexico. Super tasty. Will they grow in Florida? I thought they are Passiflora maliformis (sweet calabash), but turns out it is a different species.

Yes, sweet granadilla grows and fruits in South FL. Have fruited giant granadilla.

I prefer p. laurifolia. Fruits are more complex, yet still no acid.

Ligularis is a pleasant enough fruit but ddoesnt enjoy the tropics being more subtropical in its preferences. I personally find them a bit bland even when sweet. I cant help but compare them to top shelf flavicarpas and they are not in the same realm at all.
The term granadilla is reserved exclusively for the giant passionfruit in my part of the world where they have been a backyard feature for over 100years. Some selections of these have better flesh with honeydew tones but generally flesh is bland but can be stewed and the pulp mixed through afterwards fo improve the flavour.
So far as P.edulis edulis goes I recently got a batch of sweethearts with reputedly taste better than the esteemed misty gem which is the standard and they are larger. I did a taste trial of these with Ernie flavicarpa, a prince of passionfruit and was surprised at the gulf between them. The Ernie flavicarpa blew the the edulis out of the water in terms of complexity of taste profile, sweetness and on any other characteristic you care to name when tasting fruit. I'm not sure misty gem is yesterdays adulis if sweetheart is that disappointing.
