I have 3 young bushes that gave their first notable crop this year, i thought they were going to be sweet ,but they are mostly sourish. Now i did find out that the most dark and soft fruits were quite good actually, nice flavour, but still mildly sweet at best. However ,i find them addicting , not as much as blueberries though.
So my question is am i picking them too early? Will the plants ,as they age , improve in quality/ sweetness?

Hi, sorry for late response. I have Lonicera caerulea of several varieties, and some are quite sweet, but on contrast to other varieties. All of those which I've tried, were no sweeter than Ribes nigrum or wild strawberries.

Right after i posted this the fruits on my plants went from moatly sour to a very nice sweet-sour balance. I had ones that were mildly sweet with no sourness and a nice flavour boquette to them.
