Marsh Seedless White Grapefruit
« on: May 21, 2022, 04:21:07 PM »
In Colorado the temperatures are not high enough to sweeten white grapefruit as sweet as Florida grown fruit.  Therefore, I have continued to leave my Marsh grapefruit hang on the tree until the end of May.  Over the months I sampled a fruit every couple weeks.  And every couple weeks the fruit became a little sweeter.  Today, the 21 of May I ate two of the grapefruit and they were quite sweet.  I noticed that when I picked them they were also some what soft and  juicier .  Time heals all things.

Iím harvesting my Rio Reds and Croxton grapefruit now too. They have to be on tree almost a year and a half to ripen here too.

In South Florida, my grapefruit would start to be pickable but still be sour in December, and then continue to sweeten until May or June, when they would fall off the tree.

A good white grapefruit blows away any pink or red.

My favorite is Oro Blanco Grapefruit!! Sweetest grapefruit I have had. If you just eat the flesh then almost no bitterness.

Never had Oro Blanco but just random white grapefruit! The pink/red grapefruit is a product of the saying ďyou eat with your eyes firstĒ because they arenít sweeter IMO.

The only tree sold around here is Rio Red Iím assuming due to cold hardiness
