Hello SC4001992,
wonderful pictures you posted of your tree, very good for comparison. Due to beeing a nearly newcomer to citrus,
I don' have so much fruiting harvest yet, but I can share pictures of my Tangelo nova and Keraji with first fruits of the plants, riped final from october in greenhouse, but I was very satisfied with the taste for my not real citrus climate conditions in zone 7, Germany ;D.

above pictures tangelo nova, perhaps not 100% ripe, due to more green than orange rind, but already very good aromatic taste and good sugar acid balance.

Keraji mandarin, first fruit of one of my first grafts, already good ti eat, but perhaps it would have gotten more sweet a few weeks later. Was already sweet but a little bit more acid.

While up to now our winter is not to cold, the coldest period have been 4 days with temperatures at night with about 20 ° F (-7° C).
But this is still not the end of our winter, due experiences of the last years, the most challenging months in the last years have been January and February. Today and the next days we have temperatures of 48 - 57 ° F ( 9- 14 ° C ).
Nevertheless its always interesting to gather informations about winter protection strategies in our cold climate (for citrus), so quite interesting to read the article in the link below, perhaps also interesting for some of you.

interesting informations, up to now I can confirm very good frosthardyness and very strong revitalization ( with passive protection supported last winter -16 ° Celsius with about 50% twig damage, but came back in summer to about 3 times size as before winter).
A second plant in pot had a fruit and this shows also the slow development of fruit ripening.
Curious how the in ground planted will manage the 2 nd winter and if now there will be a chance of flowers and fruits ?

Winter preparations (first step sun protection with fleece) finished.
For Ichangensisxsinensis and Satsuma Collot a 80 Watt heating cable is installed if temperatures exceed -8 ° Celsius for several days it will be connected and additional isolating material as now on the top will be wrapped around.

the hardier citrus with sun protection. If cold spells are deeper than -10 ° Celsius for several days are announced, an additional cocosmat will be also wrapped around.
This year there is a new citrus CitrumeloxYuzu in ground, lets see how it will go over the freezing period.
Last years January to March are the periods with deepest temperatures.

thank you very much Jim for your detailed interesting information to your varieties I appreciate this very much.
And for me as a nearly citrus beginner compared to you and other long cultivating citrus experts these informations are very helpful, especially in our challenging climate for in ground planted citrus in middle Europe.

Very interesting fruit comparison Jim :D, how old are your mandarin trees, and in which age/ size did your Changsha and Citsuma Prague fruit for the first time ? I also have them in ground and so I' m glad to hear that Prague tastes very good.
Best regards Frank

Congratulation Flo, looks great your tree with fruits. For me as also cold hardy citrus cultivater its only a pity, that our species (cold hardy citrus cultivater) is so rare, that fruits of the different cultivars are so seldom, that we not often are able to compare fruits and taste of cold hardy varieties. So your taste test and sharing of this is very appreciated, thanks a lot . And good luck for fruits with your tree planted in soil.

interesting taste test :P.
It leads me to two questions:
1. Owari seems not to be as good as his assumed reputation. I have a satsuma collot which shall be a kind of owari. Does anywhere cultivate satsuma collot and what are the experience concerning fruit quality and frost hardiness ?
2. Bishop citrandarin seems very promising , Does anywhere in Europe cultivate Bishop citrandarin and what are the experience concerning fruit quality and frost hardiness ?
Thanks Frank

Thank you Luak for your information and pictures.
So you keep them pretty warm, mine are kept at about 35 ° F, as minimumtemp. at night, daytimetemperatures normally are much higher due to sun warming.
For my Chandler this worked quite well in the last winter in my greenhouse.

Hi Luak,
look nice your pomelos, are they in a greenhouse, do you heat your greenhouse ? On which min. temperatures do you heat your greenhouse ?
I have mine from about october to march in the greenhouse and I only try to avoid freeze, min. temperature I keep by about 2 degree Celsius for my chandler pomelo and other citrus.

Hello Brian,
I have also a Chandler with 3 fruits this year.
After my experience from last year I decided to wait with harvesting until March/April. Because last year I tested in October, in January and March and the March fruit was the best.

This are very interessting positive news, fruits after 3 years from seeding !!! Could there have been genes of precautious poncirus in this seeds ?
All what I ever heard is that in our colder climates blossoms and fruits of citrus seedlings need at least 5 to 8 years if its early ?
So this is a very encouraging case - congratulation Kumin :D.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Good tasting persimmon for zone5-6
« on: November 04, 2021, 03:43:18 AM »
After my knowledge the persimons seem to take until - 4° Fahrenheit so don' t know what are the lows in your zone, so I think it s really an experiment which needs protection of the trees, especially if they are young.
I have persimon sharon and Jiro and this winter they took 3° Fahrenheit without problems.
Concerning taste I have never eaten a bad tasting kaki or persimon if they are full matured. I think the difference is the arstringence of much varieties if they aren' t full ripe.
I have persimon jiro and persimon sharon ( fuyu, with the first 7 fruits this year, but not tested yet to let them a bit ripening on the tree).
Good success Frank

273
Thanks for your informations, yes I also have them on my citrus trees, so i stop them at the trunks with biological resin, which works well.
best regards Frank

274
Hello this year I will get the first 7 fruits with my tree after 2 years ago I got ants and aphids to my flowers and fruits. All fruits got spoiled and branches died back. Then I made ant protection on the trunk and now the flowers/ fruits are O.K.
Don' t you have ant problems ?
Best regard Frank

275
winter preparations are starting although no freeze annonced for the next 10 days.
This time will try to make bricks arround the plants and then wrap around cocos mats. Perhaps this time I still add one or two water bottles if place is enough. And finally I hope we not get again down to 3,2 ° Fahrenheit ;).

Yuzu, last year no protection was to optimistic, freeze nearly to ground, ( but didn' calculated to get 3,2°)
