Chamba is a little-known fruit tree native to the Amazon region of Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia. The fruit of the champa tree has a unique, caramel-like flavor and an exquisite scent. It grows in temperatures between 22 and 30°C, with annual rainfall exceeding 1,500mm, and requires loamy to clay soils. The tree starts producing fruit around five years of age, and the maximum production occurs in September (February for Junin, Argentina). The fruit is traditionally harvested from the ground when it is close to maturity and can be harvested for up to 15 days, yielding up to 75kg per day.

Growing this tropical fruit tree is fairly easy once it gets past the early stages: keep it moist, use a slightly acidic substrate with a good amount of organic matter, water with chlorine-free water, and keep it a bit out of the sun when too young. It resists -2ºC, it is not recommended to plant it in places with strong frosts. The seeds are flattened and bitter like all campomanesias, so you dont have to bite them, they sprout easily.
