Tropical Fruit Discussion / Parrot safe rare fruit
« on: March 30, 2023, 08:18:00 AM »
Hello,
I’ve been collecting for a few years now and recently adopted an eclectus parrot and a conure. I I’m finding there’s no info on the web as to whether or not some of these rare fruits are safe to share with them. Here’s what I have and I’m wondering if anyone here has any info on

Peanut butter fruit
Pitomba, Eugenia luschnathiana
Achacha
Jaboticaba
Soursop
Sugar or custard apples
Jamaican cherry, muntingia…I see cardinals eating these all the time
CORG
Persimmons
Black spots
Sapodilla
Surinam cherry
Too many other Eugenia’s to list and they are years away from fruiting
Phalsa
Canistel
Grumichama

Also happy to hear recommendations for stuff you they might like. I saw carrot wood trees are native food but don’t think I can plant it.

Found this growing wild in an empty lot by my house. Thought it was interesting even though the plant is bad news in my area.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID

Anyone know what this is? I found it growing in a friends yard on the east coast of central Florida. The flowers look like Eugenia flowers and the bark very similar to jaboticaba or crape myryle.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID Garcinia?
« on: February 13, 2022, 11:20:00 AM »
Hello, I’m told this is in the garcinia family by someone who has a ton of rare fruit experience… but he couldn’t remember the name and I can’t seem to find it on the web. Any idea? Has hard leaves and sharp tips like a holly
