Title: Looking for guava cuttings.
Post by: Taylorhill on May 11, 2022, 02:16:51 AM
I am looking for guava cuttings. I only have pineapple guava. I am wanting to plant as many varieties as I can find. I am also looking for cuttings to Chilean guava berries.

Thought I would look for cuttings before trying seeds.
Thank you,
Ty

Pineapple guava is not related to other types of guava (white, yellow, strawberry) and grafts of those types will not take. If you are looking for cuttings for rooting I can help. I have large sweet cream guava cuttings.

Yes I am looking for cuttings to root. They seem to root fairly easy and fruit fast from cuttings or seed. Yes they are a different genus.

I am in 8b/9a and some will do great outside here from what I read. However I do research on Musa and have a lot of greenhouse space for the more tropical types.

I would love buy some of your large sweet cream guava cuttings! Any growing or rooting advice would be amazing also. I知 totally new to guava and most other tropical fruit trees. However I知 already quite addicted lol.

Fair warning that in my 9b area, lemon, strawberry and pineapple guava do great - all the rest of the standard "tropical" guava kinda get destroyed every winter and frost nips the newest branches back.

Great info! Thank you. Yes my plans are to keep them either potted or planted inside the greenhouses and safe. Later taking my own cuttings and moving some of the more tolerant ones outside as a test.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Can anyone confirm that all/most guavas can root easily from cuttings?

I知 not quite sure what some folks are doing to get guava cuttings to root, but I have not managed to root any guava cutting...Then again, I also happened to be the person who couldn稚 even get a weeping willow cutting to root even if his life was depended on it, lol. :-D
Guava plants seem to air layer pretty well, at least based on my experience.

I値l keep track of my success and failures of each variety and method and report back here on the forum. I知 usually fairly good at getting cuttings of things to root. Even rooted jujube cuttings and finger lime awhile back. Some things seem to be a lot easier than others.

Okay cool! It seems like everyone has his or her own best ways of getting their cuttings to root. Some fruit species or even varieties are notoriously finicky with their environment and can fell when those parameters are not met...
