Soak in water overnight to rehydrate them. have fungicide on hand for damping off fungus.  they take a couple weeks to germinate. they can fruit 2.5 years old from seed. goodluck! Thank you for the support.

yes, this fruit isnt described with much gritty texture the pulp is firm and meaty and smooth.. the grittiness ive noticed comes from the mushy fruit near the skin.

Just picked my very own Painter Cherilata. Beautiful tree and leaves.  Grafts well on pond apple.

First ‘Painter’ cherilata fruit. A ‘spain’ cherimoya crossed with a ‘Tikal’ reticulata custard apple I believe.
color is very good, sweet and firm flesh,  moist with strong strawberry(raspberry?) cream flavor. No perfume smell like pure reticulata fruits.  Does have some grainy sugar crystal texture in the dark pink near the skin like reticulata. One fruit was not enough -it leaves you wanting more!
This variety requires no hand pollination.  It precocious and makes many fruits. I have had to thin 15 or so fruits on a 2 year old tree.
Overall a top tier annona fruit and cant wait for the next one to ripen. Thanks John for creating this wonderful variety.

not sure how this conclusion was made... I dont have african apride to compare my Tim to.

not sun burn. I have some jackfruit trees that do this as well. Its nutrional deficiency of some sort, been trying to work it out myself.

i assumed it was my well water affecting the ph and locking out mineral absorbtion. ive corrected with sulphur and adding organic fertilizer and supplementing with micros.

The Calypso was so good ripe from the tree it reminded me of the florida mangos.  So much so I sourced and found Sensation.  Its a very old florida mango that fell out of favor here but is very large with purple blush.  It was used in the breeding of the calypso. 

Lemon zest is an amazing tasting mango. Im hoping for a good orange sherbert this year from my tree. i had one a few years ago but it was overripe.

Thanks for sharing Mike, thats a real bread basket that area, good to see newer mango varieties..

I supervised a mango harvest on a very large commercial mango farm over there a few years ago. It was the trademarked Calypso mango ( kensington pride x sensation). Those were a great tasting mango off the tree. weate tons that were too ripe for the packing houses. But they were picking them 'ripe green' and sending them to the local supermarkets. I went to Coles to buy the same mango and it wasnt nearly the same. I felt bad forthe consumer in the grocery stores.

Kai means 'egg' in Thai so that would refer to the shape.

'Wan' means sweet in Thai.
