If you have a lot of ants, it means (at least in Canary Islands) that your soil is too dry, humidity is low. So my suggestion is to water little quantities, but often, so the soil and mulch  keeps humid. Ants don't liek wet feet  ;D

I am very sorry for all the confiscated seeds. In my opinion if you order only a few seeds, then cutoms will no notice it or bother about, but if the amount of seeds is bigger, then the risk of loosing it increases...

I know a few nurseries in Europ selling tropical fruit trees. But after Brexit I don't know if they can send plants to Uk and I don't know if they would send plants to Gambia.

Shipping plants is risky and very expensive. My advice is to start with seeds, which grow very fast in tropical climate. Seeds can survive weeks and even month in the mail, while plants are very perishable. Later he can also consider ordering budwood for grafting...

Unlike all my other pouterias, my ross suffers a lot from chlorosis and is also y very poor bearer. Do I have those problems maybe because my ross is grafted on canistel?

The fastest, easiest and cheapest method is to paint the trees with chalk. You take a brush and splash it on the trees. This will protect them like an sun lotion and does not harm them. The new groth under the painted leaves will be well adapted to the sun and heat. This method works great for all kind of tropical fruit trees. Here are some examplres from the research station...

Hi Richard,

I am using a heat mat  and I removed gently the seed coat. Now they are starting to germinate, but the tap root is developing pretty slow. It is the slowliest pouteria I have ever germinated, usually they germinate and grow fast... but patience pays of they say...  ;D  ::)

In Winter it should get below 10 Celsius. If he has a hot, dry and sunny Summer, then he should use shade cloth in order to filter 30% of the sun light. Otherwise the plants suffer too much stress.

Wirst wrap the scions in parafilm to keep the moisture. Them paint the graft with chalk, this reflects the sun and keeps it cool. Once the scion starts to grow, the buds will push through the pafarilm and chalk and should handle the sun and heat well.

BTW, when you put a plant in ground (move it from the green house to outdoors) it is a good method to paint the whole plant with chalk in order to protect from hot and dry climate. I have written before about in the forum...
