Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: most cold hardy avocado
« on: September 24, 2023, 09:15:26 PM »
here's an idea i can give you guys.

there's a genus in the avocado family: Beilschmiedia. there's like 200+ species and some are edible.

some of them are temperate to subtropical (they get really big though)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mammey seeds germination?
« on: August 21, 2023, 03:31:58 PM »
mamey sapote(pouteria)=fresh seeds germinate with no problems in anything, no problem.
if the seeds are shipped then you can crack the harder shell open without destroying the seeds. if doesn't smell good
try with some fungicide.

mamey americana L=just put in larger pots with garden soil and forget.

not sure if you can buy from this site but https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/tropical-fruit-f-o/?page=2 they have garcinias cheap price and those species have a high germination rate if you wait a few months.

reminds me of an akee seedling.

but what do you grow?

6
Yes!  I want one too... along with a Malpighia yucatanaea.

We can group order a tree from Mexico and someone plants it in USA and later sends seeds/cuttings to the rest of the buyers. That person gets to keep the plant.

As for M.Yucatanea i have a seedling from tradewinds.

Hi thanks elouicious, well they have them there https://goo.gl/maps/Y6me9TcSHgZquaW57 a bit close from Raul right :) ?

Amatlán de Cañas, Nayarit, Mexico  the place from the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cMf0XPzW34

There's also this nursery (Yautepec)  Mexico that sells the plant  https://viveroyautepec.com.mx/producto/guachocote/

We could try to get this to USA with a permit?

a.haitiensis subsp appediculata
https://youtube.com/shorts/F0lMfSnGKc8?feature=share
very small plant and fruit. (maybe a super dwarf rootstock?)

e.monticola
https://youtube.com/shorts/hSxRyS8K1yI?feature=share
had not seen it with fruit in a long time

myrcia sp
https://youtube.com/shorts/V5Oiy5N1u4o?feature=share
lemony smell and flavor. it's said to be myrcia citrifolia.

tart/bitter-sweet or wild pitanga if that makes any sense. Edibility level is unknown, not much is known about this plant as i'm the only one that grows it and eats it but nothing bad happened to me for far :)

Hello guys
I am moving to another house in about 2 weeks...The E. aff Polyclada as i call it is fruiting right now and there will be about 30-40 seeds.
So by leaving behind this plant or (if i may try to take it in a container) there may be no more of these for years. These are different from the wild E. Polyclada i have seen before and the plant is slightly taller with bigger fruit. Idk if it's genetic variation or it might be slightly mixed with another species. I don't sell seeds anymore but if there's enough interest i can send them to Bellamy with a permit.

Probably the sun is too harsh/too cold/air too dry.

Carambola is literally UNKILLABLE over here. You can remove an established tree but it will come back forever.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Eugenia with Long Germination Times
« on: April 21, 2023, 07:42:05 PM »
cambuca=the seeds had roots but no plant so i thought they would die. many months later the plants have grown quite a bit.
the mulchi also took a long time.
e.rostrifolia=over a year.
another guavaberry=well over a year.
there's another that took a year forgot the name :)
had two guabiju sprout like after 10 months, one of them looked sickly and died but the other is doing fine.
the p.rivularis looked all dead when they arrived but 2 of them revived somehow.
same for one of the black COTRG seeds one of them germinated after a long time.

edit the e.dysenterica had an abnormality like a million stems but it could never push one normally. after a long time it only kept two and now it decided to die.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: My annonaceae some pictures
« on: January 07, 2023, 07:11:22 AM »
Wow what a collection, thanks for sharing!

IMOE that golden soursop looks a bit to green to be a true golden soursop. They usually are pale green/yellow despite sufficient soil moisture and nutrients.
Have seen mature fruit bearing tree's at a neighbors place and have seedlings myself. They all have pale green/yellow leaf.

Hopefully they all will become common eventually : D

Hi, thanks.

Yes it's a "Golden soursop" seedling not a grafted plant.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My annonaceae some pictures
« on: January 06, 2023, 05:24:50 PM »
Some pictures requested by a friend, fellow annona collector and other friends who started this adventure of collecting annonas in an effort to try to collect save some species from extinction. So many thanks to Saltman,JoeP450,Tropical Fruit Bonsai, mikesid and others :)
who read my rants and such as we are investigating documentation and looking for seeds and plants for annonas from the caribbean region.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First things first this is the annona found in "Barreras" province of Azua...the seedling has shown some good progress.
Found and given to me in a trip when searching for a.dumetorum
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What we have here is the controversial annona bought from the JBN(national botanical park) of santo domingo...which are supposed to be a.dumetorum as well but show a phenotype with long and thin leaves that made some people think it's actually another species. So we are still trying to find out...

annona "Barreras" compared to JBN "long leaf" annona.

My annona Urbaniana plants.

ok seems i found some old pictures of these from 2014
they were never fertilized so the leaves look a bit nutrient deficient.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: cas guava vs lemon guava vs other ID

the leaves are not like the normal guava such as these guys.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/291993280040 (not mine just an example)
-------------------------------------------------------------
they're like smaller and glossy but for some reason they look bigger once i took a picture from close range. they aren't also very serrated like that either. but i guess i  should get better pictures for the leaves :)

the reason i thought it was cas it's because of the prominent dents of the fruit and the smaller size...

hi guys, what do you think this is?

fruit about 1 1/4 inch diameter

25
i think it's good idea so you can have your dragon fruits with a medicinal type short tree that you only need like 1 or 2 fruits or maybe just a few leaves.
