The best purple easy peel chewy sugar apple with a sweet berry juice flavor. This variety when grown from seed from first generation seeds seems to retain its desirable characteristics as reported from many other growers who first purchased this variety. Our mother trees are closely planted and isolated from other annonas which ensures good pollination and better chance of no cross pollination. They were not available in past years but we are happy they made it through the freezes and hurricane this year. These seeds are available now offered 5 seeds for $19.99 direct from the grower.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / 'Isan Indigo' Chewy Purple Sugar apple update.
« on: February 23, 2020, 02:41:00 PM »
For the backstory please visit the original thread here:

2020 Update:

1. After experiencing freezing temperatures in January.  We ran sprinklers to ice over the small isan indigo seedlings for a few hours. I'm happy to report no cold damage or tip die back occured on small 1 gallon plants.

2. As the 2017 release of seedlings begin to fruit and mature... some folks (forum user: achetadomestica) are trying to sell scions of their seedlings as "isan indigo'... not only is this unethical, it's disrepectful and negligent. Please be aware no budwood or scions has been distributed of 'Isan Indigo'.   We will try to make grafted trees availble in the future and an update will be posted here when availble.

3.Now for the exciting news:  We have just re-release chewy purple sugar apple seeds on a website called  direct link here:

Happy growing,

I'm offering seed for sale of this new selected variety. The tree was selected and exhibits high productivity, excellent chewy dark purple/red skin, inside has firm white meaty flesh with a raspberry juice flavor, relative low seed count, it is an 'easy peel' sugar apple. For more details check this thread:

To purchase seeds please visit my website as its easier to deal with orders that way. seeds are now 10 seeds for $20. get them before they are gone.

A few years ago I visited my future wife's family in the rural parts of Thailand's North east region called 'Isan'. (pronounced E-san) It was here I was gifted a very special fruit. I was handed a purple sugar apple that made the rest of the family jealous.  I ate and enjoyed the fruit and slipped some seeds into my back pocket. Long story short, a few trees ended up growing and got the first fruits in 2.5 years in Ft Myers, FL. There was one tree from all the seedlings that made about 6 fruits that 1st fruiting year with no pollination. This year (3.5yrs old from seed) the tree set 50 fruits with only hand pollination on 2 occasions 2 weeks apart.

The tree was selected and exhibits high productivity, excellent chewy dark purple/red skin, inside has white meaty flesh with a raspberry juice flavor, relative low seed count, it is an 'easy peel' sugar apple.

Background on sugar apple types:
In Thai they characterize the type of sugar apples into two categories: 'nang' or 'fai'. The 'nang' type is an easy peel chewy type when ripe. The 'fai' type is a type that is more of a sugary mush and much less desirable grainy texture. The 'Isan Indigo' is a 'nang' type along with the green 'Na Dai' Vietnamese types.  As far as I know all known RED SUGAR Apples types in cultivation are the 'fai' mushy type.

I will use this thread to share results of testing and other pertinent information for this new variety. Grafted trees will be available in the future. A limited amount of seed is available through our website due to demand.

I am looking for a top 5 list of the best growing mangos for commercial purposes. Plan is to grow them in high density planning keeping the trees small for easier spraying, harvesting, and picking.

I need a mix of early, mid, and late season mangoes.

Mangoes that ship well, have good diseases resistance and are productive.  No need to mention tommy atkins on this list.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Biochar or charcol for your fruit trees
« on: March 16, 2014, 02:49:56 PM »
Anyone going crazy with biochar soil amendment?  Im looking to improve the sandy florida soil and I think this would be great to act as a water and nutrient strange base for the sandy soil that leaches organics so easily. Of course inoculating it with tons of manures and compost and tilling it in sounds like a magic formula.

im planning on doing some experimenting with it.
