I’m wondering if they are the same? Saw they are both called Achacha. Pretty sure the tree at fruit and spice park labeled as garcinia Sp is achacha but it seems to have a weeping growth habit or it’s growing close to the ground. My trees labeled garcinia humilis seems to have a more up right growth

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is this garcinia madruno?
« on: June 26, 2023, 06:21:41 PM »
It’s an elongated fruit and the 2 seeds are  about as long as the fruit. Slight latex in cut rind and pulp is kind of cottony. Pretty good flavor

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anybody know aquagem on ebay?
« on: December 03, 2022, 05:02:03 PM »
Aquagem offers some rare stuff but just wondering if some is legit. I’ve bought something they called dominican red star fruit which is growing good but to soon to tell if it came true to seed. Also bought a dwarf kwai muk which I still swear is a jackfruit seedling but they said they definitely sent me the right tree

Tropical Fruit Discussion / myrceugenia glaucescens info?
« on: October 26, 2022, 11:57:38 AM »
I wasn’t familiar with Myrceugenias until recently. I’ve heard it’s closely related to Luma Apiculata which I’ve been eating different varieties this season. I visited Wanderlust nursery and found he had some Myrceugenias in his collection and I had no idea they were hardy enough for Washington. Is myrceugenia glaucescens hardy enough to CA zone 9b? I had them in my greenhouse but it would be great if I could leave them outside. Also any info on fruit would be great

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Coming to Florida this Thursday 23rd-26th
« on: June 22, 2022, 02:23:42 AM »
Hello I’m visiting for the first time to Miami/homestead to visit fruit and spice park. Was wondering if there’s any other places to try fruits. Would be cool to try some mango varieties. Also if anybody wants to show off their garden I would love to visit that too. More tropical than my home so I’d love to see what you guys are growing. Also looking to buy plants

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help on Plinia I.D ?
« on: May 05, 2022, 02:09:08 PM »
I got these cuttings from a local guy who grew it from seed. It makes red fruit and he thought it was red hybrid but I’m thinking it’s maybe a phitrantha? Big leafs that are fuzzy underneath and also the newer growth of stems is fuzzy. He says he thinks his Sabara fruit taste better.

They trimmed the Jaboticaba at prusch Park and I scavenged more cuttings then I have room to graft. Does anybody want to trade me something for some? Otherwise I’m just going to try to root the rest of them which isn’t likely to work. All cuttings are pencil thickness or bigger. Open to all offers

I have some large Sabaras that are not yet fruiting. Maybe 1 or 2 more years. I would love to graft scarlet scions or any more rare types onto them. Would be very happy to find peluda do mucuri “doctors jaboticaba”. It’s my birthday tomorrow and I want to buy myself present haha

I’m in Hollywood area and I’m really hoping to find a public fruiting Inga to get a pod so I can eat and grow the seeds. I know of one in San Diego but I don’t plan on going that far. If any generous people would gift me a pod I would really appreciate that or I’d be willing to buy them too. I’d love to see a mature fruiting tree though

15
I’m in West Hollywood and was really hoping to find a ice cream bean tree. I’m from San Francisco Bay Area and my ice cream bean tree died this past winter and I’m really hoping to try the fruit and grow new trees from the seeds. I heard there’s one at sea world San Diego but that is too far

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ilama in Oaxaca Mexico?
« on: January 30, 2022, 12:46:44 AM »
Does Ilama grow in Oaxaca? I have one that was sold as Oaxaca variety. I checked the weather and it seems to get about as cold as my location around 30F so it gives me hope to possibly grow. I’m sure the cold isn’t as many hours as Northern California

17
I know the fruit has tons of seeds so please spare me some! I will pay or also have things for trade. Somebody please!  :D

« on: July 16, 2021, 11:10:10 PM »
I noticed this was only mentioned once. I ordered seeds from IDSeedsFarm on Etsy and came from Isreal . Also ordered Jarilla Chocola which I don’t think is mentioned much either. I will post pics if I have any luck with germination

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Are these Ross sapote?
« on: July 11, 2021, 02:36:24 AM »
I ordered these online “eBay” as Ross sapote. They tasted the same as the canistels I’ve ate. Maybe they were not ripened properly? The photos I see only the fruits are more flat than rounded like these. Maybe not the true form? I know Ross sapote is supposed to be sub species of canistel or possibly just a variety?

22
I know both are not the best but I’d like to hear any reports of anybody tasting a decent variety? And also I’d like to hear from anybody who has grown both what seems hardier? Compared to papaya Babaco is not sweet but I still like it. I feel I might still enjoy one of these Annonas

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona pollination question
« on: July 08, 2021, 12:30:06 AM »
Can you please explain to me what happens if I put sugar apple pollen in cherimoya flower or vise versa. Is that how Atemoya is made? If I use reticulata pollen is that how you get reticulata and then you have to grow the seedlings out?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pink guava on Feijoa mystery
« on: July 05, 2021, 05:02:51 PM »
So my grandma planted some feijoa trees on the property 50 years ago and I’ve lived here 25 years and only have taken care of it the past 5 years. Did not produce fruit for a very long time or at least I don’t remember because squirrels do eat them. But to the point is my grandma and dad both swear it use to produce pink guavas. I never believed these were graft compatible but it’s just been a mystery. Could the graft have died off years ago? They are both in Myrtaceae but I’ve heard only similar flower types can be grafted? Is that true?
