Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Should I be concerned about this Cherimoya graft union?
« on: September 30, 2023, 10:53:13 PM »I'd be more interested in what the graft union looks like under the wrap. Is it fully healed? Cherimoya grafts are known to shrink and fail even with a few leaf flushes. Definitely protect that union so it doesn't snap off and as mentioned cut those rootstock limbs.
i didnt know that about the failed grafts after a few flushes does that stand for all annonas or only cherimoyas from you experience?
I am not an annona expert but my experience is with cherimoya, atemoya, those hybrids, and illama. The graft union appears to completely separate and fail at the cambium layer more so than other grafts. Few years ago I was speaking with Brad about this. I used to have a much higher failure rate because I would remove the buddy tape too soon and within a couple weeks, The graphs would separate and fail. I'm not sure if it is related to heat or humidity, but now I give the grafts more time to heal.
