Citrus General Discussion / Forcing buds
« on: August 17, 2021, 01:29:26 PM »
Is there a way to force the bud on my newly bud grafted tree without cutting off the head of the tree? Perhaps some nearby girdling?

You should post this on the citrus section of the forum. You're more likely to get good answers from citrus gurus.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Should I boil rain or well water?
« on: July 04, 2021, 12:18:57 PM »
Thank you! The air quality is good as it's mostly flat here but locals have told me the rain is sometimes acidic and it's best to hose down the leaves with tap water after any rain. I've seen several people do it. I will be installing rain gutters that lead to a big barrel. Until then I'll run some tests on boiled vs non boiled well water. I'll upload results if theres a difference

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Should I boil rain or well water?
« on: July 04, 2021, 09:10:39 AM »
I just moved to the northern part of the Yucatan peninsula. I'm just starting a bunch of seeds and hoping to use rain water. I'm not sure whats' in the tap water but it sometimes has small green particles in it. I've had a few mold problems using the rain water. Would it be a good idea to boil the rain water? Theres also a well on the property but locals say it's not safe to drink and it smells kinda funny. Any info or links help as I am now limited on seeds. Thanks in advance -Eric

Citrus General Discussion / Need a fast rootstock
« on: June 22, 2021, 09:52:56 PM »
Hi everyone, I got more budwood than expected from the ccpp and now I have to quickly root some cuttings hopefully before the scions dry out. How long are citrus scions viable in the fridge? Is it true sour orange shoots with thorns dont produce fruit? And are shoots from the trunk better than from the canopy. Thank you in advance to everyone helping others out on this amazing forum!

Thank you lazz, I didn't consider that. Would it be a good idea to remove the most infected/affected leaves?

Citrus General Discussion / Leaf miner on new grafts
« on: May 02, 2021, 02:29:00 AM »
Hi and thank you in advance. I made my first attempt at grafting this Feburary and had great success. However now that the grafts are growing new shoots I've spotted what I believe to be signs of the infamous leaf miner. I've read the recent and very informative "neem" thread but unfortunately the plants are in yucatan and I won't be able to get the Bayer or Macho 2 out there for another 2 months and I'm worried it might be to late. Are the little grafts too young for the bayer insect control? Any other suggestions to keep these alive in the meantime is greatly appreciated. Thanks -Eric

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Very happy to hear the flavor is good. I was aware of the high heat requirements but it's been plenty hot here in California the last few summers. @fruitlovers Any Idea what rootstock yours are on? I wonder if that's why they stay small.

Citrus General Discussion / growing Temple tangor

Hi, is anyone having any luck growing the Temple Tangor? I bought some scions from the ccpp and grafted them to a sour orange seedling. It's doing great, I just dont see a lot of info online about this variety. Any pictures are also greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
