Found this growing wild in an empty lot by my house. Thought it was interesting even though the plant is bad news in my area.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID
« on: March 26, 2022, 08:37:31 PM »
Anyone know what this is? I found it growing in a friends yard on the east coast of central Florida. The flowers look like Eugenia flowers and the bark very similar to jaboticaba or crape myryle.

Are you watering extra to encourage the growth and blooms? I have a 10ft one that’s maybe 7yrs old or more and It didn’t put out a single flower last year. Had dozens the years before.

I have several java plums… this one keeps pumping out unusual looking leaves. Just thought it was neat.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID Garcinia?
« on: February 13, 2022, 11:20:00 AM »
Hello, I’m told this is in the garcinia family by someone who has a ton of rare fruit experience… but he couldn’t remember the name and I can’t seem to find it on the web. Any idea? Has hard leaves and sharp tips like a holly

They have a bunch at the Lowes in Palm Bay. I think they were under $15

I have a bunch you're welcome to have cuttings of. I'm in Palm Bay. I have longevity & okinawa too if you want it. They root super easy.

I have a few strawberry trees that do the trick quite well. They fruit all year long and in an abundance that keeps the squirrels occupied. Thinning the squirrels out via trap or other means works well too.
