That one is on my list as well.

Looks like Raintree Nursery (just south of Seattle) usually stocks it. Their bare root orders for Winter '21/Spring '22 might be done already - not sure.

A really stunning little sanctuary.

As truly impressive as your tropical efforts are - I was also really struck by your success with your stone fruit - the Midpride and Arctic. I was raised just up the road a piece in San Pedro and always assumed that between the lack of winter chill and the lack of real spring/summer heat, those would be an uphill battle.

Just fantastic.

Chris

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Group seed order from Brazil

One of the items on the inventory provided that interests me is Bacupari (G. Gardneriana).

Just wondering if anybody out there can render a verdict on both the adaptability and fruit quality of
Bacupari vs. Achachairu (G. Humilis). Among the usual list of Florida sellers - PIN, Everglades and  Plantogram, Achachairu is the one that's always offered.

I'm currently growing a handful of Luc's Garcinia in the shade of some canopy (but without special protection otherwise) here on the No. Central Calif. Coast without incident so far, and am curious to know if I can expect Luc's to be the toughest of the bunch. Thanks for any input.

Hi Raul -
Still available?
I sent you a note via your TFF email link - not sure if that's still operable.

Best, Chris

Still awaiting my first crop of Kaiteri, but I think Apollo really has great pineapple -y flavoring - not as large as Kaiteri is reputed to be. Mammoth is excellent too - tangy sweet.  The Mammoth I've tried had a bit of grittiness to its texture but not objectionable.
Mark Albert's Supreme is another one of my favorites. With any luck, the CRFG / Redwood Empire scion exchange will be back in full swing this winter and I'll head up for that - if so, I'll keep everybody posted about what I find on offer there.

Grafted a bunch of Marta 10 last winter on my FrankenFeijoa and every one of my eight attempts took, but I suspect I'm still a year or two away from tasting any.

This just in!

Last night One Green World sent me an email alert that their Feijoas are all back in stock - Anatoki, Apollo, Coolidge, Mammoth, Kaiteri, Kakariki, Nazemetz, Nikita, Robert, Takaka and Unique. If you happen to have people in the Portland area, Apollo and Mammoth are available as 5g and 15g - but they don't ship anything bigger than 1g. The Mammoth they sent me last year was good sized - probably 2ft. tall from the soil line.

Good luck!

100 percent germination of the three dozen or so Sabara seeds that I received from Shiloh during the first week of September. Highly  recommended.

Thanks Shiloh - I'll be back.

I second Janet's recommendation of OGW - especially for making several great larger fruited NZ selections available over the last few years - Kaiteri, Anatoki.

OGW does sell out their stock in pretty short order every year, but if you miss your chance Restoring Eden Nursery in the SeaTac area has been a good source for many of the same varieties.

You didn't specify where you're headed in CA, but most nurseries here in the Bay Area - if they stock anything other than Acca Sellowiana seedlings - usually sell Nazemetz and/or Coolidge Edenvale Improved.

If you end up going the seedling route and grafting, Fruitwood Nursery is a good source for scionwood. In fact, they're also former owners of what used to be known as Rolling River Nursery - the Oakland growing grounds now called Planting Justice. If you're up this way PJ is still one place that occasionally stocks more than just the two I mentioned.

Hey Kaz -
You can definitely put me down for a Novak.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB Passiflora Antioquensis

Found out about a week ago that Annie's Annuals (Richmond) had propagated some that they made available briefly in September.
They suggested that I send them an email requesting to be wait listed for it, but did say that it would be next year before they could offer it again.

Would be interested to learn if you have any luck finding this.

The SF Botanical Garden used to routinely offer 'Mission Dolores' at their annual sale.
Got one there myself probably a decade ago and it was incredibly happy in my San Mateo Coastside setting - until my extended absence on a business trip did it in. I'm sure coastal SLO would provide the same near ideal 45 -70 degree cloudforest range for it.

More recently, I believe SFBG stopped offering Mission Dolores - not sure if maybe they lost their mother plant or...? Might be worth a call.
As for seeds - I rolled the dice on a dozen Antioquiensis from a vendor in Portugal last year and struck out completely. Maybe shelf life limits?

Best of luck.

"Beads" not seeds sounds like the way to go.

Sux losing seeds/plants/scions/whatever in shipping. Has happened to me a few times now. Lost considerable amounts of $ too.

Lost an AeAe nanner plant due to whacko usps issues last year, along with a few others.

Had seeds confiscated from out of country, complete with legal threats as others have reported.

Imaging cellmate 1 asking cellmate 2, "Whatchu in for?"

Cellmate 2, "Semillas man."

Cellmate 1, "You too?"

Cool Hand Luc?

REALLY saddened to hear of the losses - especially with no apparent rhyme or reason, since I too received Raul's shipment undisturbed, unopened - near as I can tell.

Sorry too for Raul - since it renders his tremendous sense of good faith useless.

Funny - people like me - stuck here in the Arctic that is the No. Central CA Coast always think the grass must always be greener in locales like yours. And though I've visited CR maybe 7 or 8 times, I have to admit exactly that - it's almost all been limited to Arenal, Dominical, Osa and  Limon/Puerto Viejo - with only one trip out to Santa Teresa/Malpais and Hermosa 20 years ago - I'm almost afraid to know what's become of it, actually.

But I can imagine that with its more temperate, arid landscape, Guanacaste presents different challenges for nurserymen. Good luck on your quest - you sound like someone to look up the next time I head your way.

Apart from a Google nursery search that I wouldn't presume to say would improve on your local knowledge, I recall watching a whole series of YT segments that Pete Kanaris of Green Dreams (FLA) has assembled on his tours of few longtime CR food forest / permaculture pioneers there.

Might be names you already recognize, but maybe there's something new to be had too. Thoughts Pete?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Brian -
I'm still down for a purchase of a few P. Robustum if that's possible. I Just needed your Paypal info - or your preferred means of follow up.

Just FYI - I just left a belated email at Queen of the Amazon,  too - I thought you might've posted the same items on your page and hoped I could just buy them there.

Best,
Chris

Thanks again for your generosity Behl - and delivered in record time, too.

Of the bunch I ordered, I'm especially looking forward to Cumbe's progress. I've really only seen mention of it commercially at the Fruitales Tropicales website (Malaga, Spain)

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks, Behl - and happy trails.

I'm down for a pair of the P. Robustum if you can forward payment info via PM.

Thanks,
Chris

Are the P. Robustum still available? I sent off a PM a few days ago but haven't heard. I'd be agreeable to local pickup if you're shipping them from Soquel. Any excuse to surf Privates will do...

...And even a place like California Trropical in Vista - which often makes a variety of larger subtropical specimen trees available - publishes a 'no grow' list on their website.

Not to say those things are impossible, but that from their point of view dealing with customer ire over repeated failure becomes a disincentive to stock them. On occasion Atemoya Nursery - also in Vista - has made runs up this way - might be worth monitoring their FB page every so often.

PM Sent.

I just took delivery of my P. Viridis too - and I wanted to take a minute thank Nate for the beautifully grown, carefully packaged plant - you're batting 1000 with me.

I'll be back for more.

Cheers,
Chris

Yes, and sadly that was BEFORE Dr. Harris obtained his credentials from Baby Doc U. Otherwise Uncle Duke's legal counsel probably would've sprung Zonker and Mike on a medicinal exemption right from the get go...
