So, might both varieties from France be the wrong ones?

Citrus General Discussion / Nordmann Seedless triploid?
« on: September 23, 2024, 03:24:40 AM »
I am just wondering why Nordmann Seedless is seedless. It is a seedling of Nagami, has larger leaves and fruit. Could it be that it is triploid?

Citrus General Discussion / Kishu

Quissac has two kinds of Kishu in stock:
https://www.jardin-ecologique.fr/boutique/toutes-nos-plantes/comestibles/agrumes/mandarines-et-hybrides/citrus-kishu-kinokuni-fa5-mandarine-kinokuni/
https://www.jardin-ecologique.fr/boutique/toutes-nos-plantes/comestibles/agrumes/mandarines-et-hybrides/citrus-kishu-nooka-fa5-mandarine-chinois/
I asked for the difference and the seedlessness and got the following answer:
Kisho Nooka becomes bigger as a plant.
Both can be seedless if no other citrus nearby.
Now I am confused. I thought Kishu has a female sterility, thus it should not matter other citrus nearby..

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Nippon Orangequat - cold hardiness

Nippon as well as Indio has to hang a very long time on the tree. Then it becomes sweet.

I try to guess. Might it be a triploid hybrid of Fukushu and Meiwa?

But where could we get it from? I am also very interested in this variety. Is there any information how it was crossed?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Giant kumquat & Nordmann seedless

Yes, Nordmann Seedless and Kumquat Gigante are identical. In very rare cases Nordmann can have a single seed, but most of them are seedless. In my own experince Nordmann Seedless - although being a seedling from Nagami - is a bit larger than Nagami.

Which one do you mean?

For some reason my Indio always had sour fruits so I sold it. It did have beautiful fruit though. I have Kucle but I find it very similar to Fukushu but just a little smaller. Some say it is inferior to Fukushu but I feel like they are very close in flavor. Maybe it depends on how much heat the tree is getting while the fruit develops. I'm in zone 8 with hot summers so I get a good amount of heat here. For out of hand eating I'd prefer Kucle or Fukushu but for flavoring foods I'd use calamondin.

Not only taste is importand, but also productivity. Can you say anything about this?

Most of the seeds are identical.

Both are Kumquat x Tangerine. Can anyone who has both compare the taste of Calamondin with Indio?

Are most of the citron varieties the same to Buddha's Hand in regards of their taste for fresh eating and how does the rind compare to Amalfi lemon, which also isn't bitter.
