I grow katuk, moringa, cranberry hibiscus, hibiscus sorrel, ashitaba, gynura procumbens, okinawa spinach, and a few other edible shrub/trees. It is really cool to get fresh greens off a nice sized plant that grows faster than you can eat it. Katuk, moringa, and mulberries are my morning snack everyday for a while now. Most of this stuff is easy to grow from cuttings, and does well here.

Excited to hear about other plants people are growing and eating.

Looks a lot like a garcinia in ways. The leaves also look similar to clusia. Interesting for sure

I'm a little farther south, but am having good preliminary results with Homestead soursop and rollinia. Both were put in-ground Jan 2016 (5 - 7 gals), and are producing fruit now. Gefner atemoya is growing well, but no fruit yet. I agree, sugar apples are good, but other anonna taste better. Too many seeds in sugar apples.

Don't spray it with anything except maybe water. Since it has recently been repotted, do not fertilize for a month or more while the roots are growing. Then hit it with something light, like worm casings. Keep it in a shaded spot with dappled light.you might be making it worse by doing too much.

mine is no longer in ground, dug it up and put a Kesar mango in its' place. once in a pot, it started flowering.

I grabbed a couple of Fijian Dwar/Samoan coconut trees from someone from the South Florida Palm Society who was helping with a membership drive at the USDA research center. think they were $25 each. You might want to try contacting them to see if you can have one shipped, or if they can direct you to someone who can. Pretty sure these are the real deal. Good luck!

mimosa pudica - sensitive plant: plant that actually responds to touch by closing leaves and small twigs retracting. Most people have never seen this before, and are really intrigued.

ashitaba - tomorrow leaf: medicinal herb/vegetable

borojoa : medicinal tropical fruit

raisin tree : jujube relative that develops swollen stems that are sweet and taste something like raisins. Ended up giving this tree to a friend who lives farther north, as I believe it is better suited to a cooler, less tropical climate.

Maybe instead of building more oil pipelines, we could work on better managing rainwater. Move that excess rainwater to where it is needed. Metric tons of freshwater have been pouring off my roof, ...just today. Wish I could share it.

another 6 inches here since my last post. And here it comes again.

It's been pretty wet down this way for over a week now, but it seems worse up towards Broward and beyond. Most of my plants seem to be loving it, but worried about ripening mangoes. Dragon fruit aren't as happy as they seemed. Good luck everyone!
