Hi, one of our "ñangapiré negro" or pitanga-jambo (eugenia repanda) is showing 2 fruits with the ideal colour... so I hope to taste it in the next few days:

21 march, it started to turn orange

24 march, red

27 march, dark red

Yes Luis, they look great, sad I didnt discovered them before! it's a 3L poted plant (less than 1 gal) that was almost neglected, so I dont hope the fruit will be great, but, anyway, the problem could be it lacks of sweetness, so if it's the case, I will be able to imagine it with some more sugar ;), just speculations...

Why do you think it's not sweet?

No no, I didnt tried them yet, still firm in the tree

I think they could be less sweet because it was not well watered while ripening (as I discovered the fruits later...)

Hi huertasurbanas,

I hope they will taste great. Please let us all know later after your first bite. Helton says they taste like Surinam Cherry and are delicious (from Google translation).

Hi, thanks, I studied Graphic Design 15 years ago, so yes, we took some photo lessons there.

I think it's not difficult to take good photos of fruits, what I usually do is set the camera to focus on close (usually cameras have an icon with a picture of a flower) and adjust the colors (a preset) for a sunny day or cloudy as may be the case, I prefer sunsets to take pictures because the sun shines sideways and fruits look better, but these photos of eugenia repanda were taken at any time of day.

Tomas: yes, I bought the plants taking account of the Helton's report... the fruits should taste like pitanga+jambo (pitanga+roses...)

By the way: I dont know why we here call it "ñangapiré negro" (negro=black): the colour does not seems to get darker from now...

Rose hip jam is very popular in Europe - I have tasted it and it is nice. Maybe that is the comparison being made.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_hip
Eugenia luschnathiana = CURUIRI.    Talisia esculenta = PITOMBA
I do not recommend people deal with Fruit Lovers, Prisca Mariya or Fernando Malpartida
