Flying Saucer Mandarin
« on: December 08, 2020, 02:27:41 AM »
Here's a new mandarin hybrid/sport which I found on my tree.
It's called "Flying Saucer"

The fruit has a belly button that sticks out. I hope I can get the same fruit on this branch again next season.

Yes, it is very unusual. I have been growing citrus for 20+yrs and never had fruits like this one. No, the taste is the same as the other fruit. Even the little button tasted good.

I saw some seeds in the "flying saucer" fruit.  Try to germinate them see they come out true or not.  It will be an very interesting variety.

SC40001992  your multiple fruit was caused by Aceria sheldoni infestation.   I learned this answer from I
Ilya11 who gave you the answer on Laaz's forum.

Millet, yes I agree on the multi-finger mandarin, it probably was since I found another fruit that also has the same type of weird shape. I wonder if it will have any flesh inside when I cut it since most of the fruit is all fingers.

Do you think my Flying Saucer fruit is due to the same thing (Aceria sheldoni infestation) ?

pinkturtle, now you tell me. It had seeds but I may have thrown them away. If I kept them it is now mix up with the other fruits I cut that day.
