Couple more fruit coming in. Probably 1.5 lbs to around 4 lbs each by the looks of them.

Went to pick up fruits from Rob this week, we had a great experience and conversation!
Rob was super friendly and the rollinia was absolutely delicious!!

The fruit was large, picked after ripening on the tree. Had a Lemon Yogurt type of flavor, about half the sweetness of a sugar apple. Something you have to try yourself in order to truly understand. Everyone i shared the fruit to, truly loved them.
All in all, very friendly seller and great product. it’s impossible to go wrong!

Thank you Nikolas! Stoked you and your peeps all enjoyed rollinia like I do. Can't get my wife to or kids to partake with me.

Was a pleasure meeting you and getting to know each other. Great to make new friends!

Looking forward to talking and sharing fruits again soon.

Just a little shout out to Rob and his delicious Rollinia. I just ate half of one rollinia and loved it. It has a nice lemony/banana flavor. It’s like a mix of cherimoya and guanabana. Thanks again for the opportunity to try it. I’ve been trying to taste the fruit for over 3 years now. Now it’s time to plant one!

I also picked up a nice Passiflora laurifolia from him as well. And I really appreciated the tour of his food forest. He has an awesome collection of rare fruit trees and a wealth of knowledge. Thanks again Rob.

Peter

Thank you Peter!

Was a pleasure hanging out and wandering the yard with you. We share a lot of the same taste in plants. Glad we met and can share more of our collections with each other over time.

Coolest part of growing and sharing fruit is the people you meet.

Or maybe its eating wonderful fruit you can't buy at the store.

Not really sure; its all cool, except the stress and cost and work and bug bites and pests... lol

So far, nearly everyone who has tried rollinia has had a very positive review.

I've always liked it, but my wife and kids do not. Nearly chopped our tree, but couldn't do it. So glad to have it now, as its only got better.

I really don't do much except trim it to keep it around 10 foot tall, and some occasional fertilization. Definitely responds to feeding with flowers and fruits. No pests or problems noted.

While the tree initially seemed to require hand-pollination to set fruit, that is no longer the case. 40+ fruit this season with no hand pollination. Fruits twice or more per year, less fruit usually in winter.

Tree was planted in ground January of 2016. Was a 5 or 7 gallon at the time.

Get you some rollinia growing!

Down to last 3 rollinia, which going to keep. Done for now, but tree is flowering again and should be seeing winter time fruits. Will post again.

Thank you everyone that reached out and came down. Met some really cool people and made new friends.

Thanks TFF for hosting all of us and making it easier to connect.

My Rollinia flowers all through the year but is yet to set fruit. What fertilizer do you use?  Is there anything special  that you need to do to make the tree fruit?

Old compost bin got knocked over, underneath rollinia tree. The side that it dumped on was the side that became covered in fruit. Have used various ferts in past.

When flowering, hand pollinate and leave some old fruit to rot under the tree. Will attract pollinators over time.

You will need to store pollen in fridge overnight+, separated from plant material (nothing but pollen dust). Sealed, with desiccant pack. Usually don't get male and female flowers on the same nights.

Good luck!

Wait, what?
We have to hand pollinate Rollinia to get fruit?  Not self-pollinating?
That is something to consider for those wanting to plant a tree.

Thanks

To get things started, hand pollination is a good idea. It takes a while for pollinators to find a tree.

The last batch of fruits I had were from natural pollination. The compost bin probably helps a bit, which is right under the tree.

So "NO" you do not have to hand pollinate rollinia. You will just get fruits sooner, and perhaps bigger ones if you do.

My tree fruited first time this year hand pollinated, 3rd batch of flowers currently holding fruit 2 fruits naturally. But flowered a bunch last year no fruit. Hand pollinating got it started
