Kumquat trees

The 3 trees in ground are seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees and the 5 gallon are Grafted Fukushu kumquats

Poncirus Guy,  the Fukushu  shown in the last picture, does the picture's description mean that Pt was grafted on a sour orange root stock and then the Fukushu was grafted onto that combination ?

Yes.  I used the Poncirus to serve as an inter-stock to bridge between incompatible sour orange and kumquat scion.  My previous direct graft of kumquat to sour orange all died quite quickly.

What is the desire for sour orange rootstock instead of poncirus rootstock only?

I have been grafting everything I have onto Flying Dragon lately as my trees all grow too fast.

Seville sour promotes extra sweetness needed to sweeten the pulp of the Fukushu.  I am going to try Flying dragon for my New Zealand lemonade and valentine pomelo.
