If it comes thru like they say, there's going to be massive damage to property both public and private. Also, major crop damage to things like the date crop in Coachella valley. And people will probably die. So, you may benefit but not everyone will.

I hope no one dies or has property damage of course.  I don't really watch the news so I haven't heard how bad they are claiming it will be.  I just know everything on TV gets sensationalized.

I hope the storm heads to Lake Mead and Powell, which are historically low. I am praying that we get less damage but huge boost in rainfall for the area we really need.

Will be a nice August rain event for Socal. It likely won't even be a weak tropical storm, more likely a disorganized depression. A lawn chair may not even tip over. Tropical storms don't like that cold water and deteriorate rapidly as a result.

It might not amount to much in Florida. But Florida doesn't have 8,000 foot peaks with dry stream beds running right into residential areas. That's exactly what there is in areas like Palm Springs. Runoff from the mountains is going to be massive if this hits full force as predicted. Rocks and desert soils don't soak up water like flat, heavily vegetated Florida.

There are whole mountain ranges in southern CA that range from 8,000 to 11,500 ft elevation. What you got in Florida? When a wet storm plows into that it's not a nice August rain.

Fruitnut nailed it. We don’t handle 3” rain storms like most places.  Flooding is always a threat with any large storm that dumps a few inches over a short period here in SoCA. 
Where I live in the hills, I’m more concerned with wind damage.
Of course, locals buying up all the bottled water, toilet paper, and generators might be going a little overboard.

Florida Storm Categories and prep:
1). Tropical Storm--Bring in lawn chairs/garbage cans. No golf today. 
2). Cat 1 Hurricane--Board up windows and prepare to ride it out. Watch storm through cracks in boards. "Popcorn anyone?"
3). Cat 2 Hurricane--All of the above+buy extra fuel for generator and chainsaw. Drive around after storm to check damage to neighborhood and help neighbors.
4). Cat 3 Hurricane--You really should evacuate. Return neighbor's stray porch from 3 houses down after storm.
5). Cat 4 Hurricane--Time to be long gone! Call insurance adjuster from hotel during eye of storm to get first spot in line (don't provide specifics about damage until returning home other than to say--"significant").
6). Cat 5 Hurricane--Higher an archatect/building contractor before the rush. Also, requisition a "Vacant Lot For Sale--WATERFRONT!!!" sign (Even if it wasn't true before, it is now...)

Ouch! I hope Johnny will not lose any mango fruits as these ST look so good. I only have a few fruits this year and tomorrow I will try to anchor each fruit to the holding branch and hope the wind doesn't knock them down.

Looks like San Diego and inland will get blasted, turning inwards a bit now. Seems it'll totally miss us in Santa Barbara, would've liked some rain. Wishing good luck to those directly in the path. 4" for SD would be great - it's the 10" for Palm Springs that's going to be an issue.

I'm up on the coast and not too worried for our area.  It's the valleys, inland/mountain areas and desert areas that are more a risk.  Wish you all the best and hey at least we don't have to water this weekend.

I think coastal areas get just some outer band rain maybe 1 inch or so.

This was called by him 10 days ago & expect more rains coming after this hurricane.

I think we will see the most flooding and issues in riverside county. Particularly of interest is Banning, CA. It is in a valley between two major mountains and the storm is set to go right through the city. I would think a major flooding event could occur near the washes and seasonal creeks.

Seems like another overhyped and media exerbated event.

Just a moderate rain event so far. Light winds.

LA Unitifed Schools just anounced they are closing all schools for Monday August 21, 2023. They recieved 1.5-2" of rain in a 24 hour periord. Oh so Terrible. We must close our schools for such a catasthophric event.

The tropical storm seems to avoid the Los Angeles areas for now and turns a bit north-east.

Desert areas like Palm Springs are already flooded.  I'm currently near Mt Charleston, west of Vegas, and we're already at half our yearly precipitation and we haven't even really got hit yet. Good opportunity to collect some rainwater at least.
