I have a question on how many people would be interested in buying an air layered Brewster Lychee tree in 2024.

I just finished picking my last ripe lychee fruits today. Now that I can climb up on my roof again after my successful knee surgery last year, I noticed the tree has grown more in the last 2 years and I need to either cut a lot of the branches off or maybe try the air layer again (failed last time). If there is not enough interested people, I may just cut down the tree to 8 ft and keep it small next year. Anyone who wants to buy scion wood can send me a message ($5 each plus shipping) now before I start the air layers.

So, for now, I wanted to see how many people would be interested in buying a small Brewster air layer (maybe 2ft-4ft size) from my tree. If there are enough interest, I will try it now and hopefully by next summer/fall the air layer might be ready to ship out.

I did see small (2 ft) lychee trees on sale at the local nursery (Mimosa) for $125 so my pricing is reasonable, but their plants probably has been growing in a pot for at least 1 year. When I purchase these small trees online, I seem to have a very low survival rate after 1 year or so. This is the risk you will also be taking when you purchase any air layer from me. I did end up buying the Sweetheart tree for $125 from Mimosa.

Some background on my Brewster tree:

- Over 30 yrs old
- Height is about 20 ft, width about 15 ft
- Consistent fruit production every year. This year I picked about 45 lbs again even with my failed air layer branches attached.
- Fruits are sweet, maybe some people on the forum that tasted my fruits can comment below.
- My tree is very healthy, grows well, strong branches.
- I will post some photos of my mother tree, and fruits I picked later.

Pricing:
1. The smaller plants (18"- 2ft) will be around $40-$50 each, only one plant order per member.
2. The medium size plants (3ft-4 ft) will be around $60-$75 each, only one plant order per member
3. You will need to pay for the cost above plus shipping cost.
4. CA residence who are local can come pickup when it's ready.

Who Can Buy It:
1. Must be a forum member for a minimum of 1 year
2. Sale is only for lower 48 states that allow shipping of lychee plant with no cert.
3. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone at any time.
4. Let me know below if you are interested or have a question or want to leave a comment about this offer.
5. Send me a PM(message) if you know you are interested in this future purchase since I will make an advance list and once I get 10-15 people on this list, it will be closed. No advance payment is required, just your interest in buying it.
6. I only take Paypal, use Friends & Family option.
7. When my list is full, I will close this post and send email to those that are on the list later when the tree is ready to ship out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special discount for the following:

1) Anyone who has a problem with my pricing and can tell me why they can't spend that much, send me a message, I may give you a discount (my option).

2) You can get a $1 discount for every year that you have been a forum member. So, if you join in 2013, you will get $10 off the price that I'm selling them.

I'll say that these lychees are very good. Besides being just sweet, it also has the nice rose flavor?
Some seeds are large, but it's a very good variety. Def would recommend, it's better than all the store bought ones by a mile!

I tried fruit from Kaz's tree a couple years ago and they were very good, way better than the fruits I bought from Weee and other Asian markets.  I'd have to try them side by side against the Kaimana from Hawaii, but from memory they were equally as good.

I already bought a Brewster tree otherwise I would take advantage of this sale.  Of the seven different trees I planted, Brewster is the most vigorous grower.

No problem Kaz.
I had a bowl of I think kiamana from the market, and I didn't even touch them after trying yours. The store ones have none of that good flavor (expected) but the difference is huge when eating together.
Very good deal you are offering.

Yes, definitely, that would be very nice to get one of your Emperor. Thank you Richard.

Since my tree is large, I will give you a choice of the small or medium size once the air layer is ready for the trade.

I'm interested, but I'm also considered how it would handle our summer sun and winter temps.
Continuing my journey to disprove those who say "You can't grow that in the desert" since 2013.

@Fygee I'm no Lychee expert but you'd probably want to invest in a strong rootstock rather than air-layered roots for those temperature swings and extremes in LV. I believe young plants are pretty heat-sensitive to 90+ degrees so it'll probably need to be babied. Lack of humidity won't help either.
There's a couple threads on all the potentially "cold-tolerant" Chinese varieties that can be grafted.

As for Kaz's Brewster Lychee, absolute 100/10. Super sweet, juicy, and slightly floral; loved em.

Thanks Dan, glad you liked the fruits.

Yes, the seedling would be stronger, the only problem is that it takes so long for lychee seeds to grow up. I have planted many seeds but after a year, just give up keeping track of where I put them. I only have 3 seedlings still growing that are 2 years old and not even 1/4" diameter, only about 18" tall. I started with hundreds of seeds but lost interest when the seeds took long to grow out. But I do have the Erdon Lee and Sweetheart seeds germinating now and will keep these in a pot where I can see it grow for 2yrs before I separate them out of the community pot.

Weíve been feasting on Kazís Brewster Lychees the past two days. The flavor is a 10/10! Probably the best tasting lychee Iíve ever had. Very sweet and juicy with zero off taste. I could eat these all day. I donít really taste much of that rose flavor thing like in some lychees, if there is, itís extremely subtle, which is nice since Iím not a fan of the strong rose flavor in some lychees, itís like eating a flower, IMO. Also, weíve found a bunch of chicken tongue seeds  :)

Highly recommend buying one of Kazís air layers.

Ok, it seems there is enough interest in the advance list for air layers so I will start the process this weekend.

Once I finish putting the air layers on, I will take some photos of each one with its unique ID number. To make things interesting and fair, I will assign each person on my list the number of your future 2024 air-layered plant, and you can track the progress when I post the status of them every 3 months. If I see roots on them, I will let that person know if case they want to have me cut it off and they can grow out the roots themselves sooner than wait for me to have it growing in a pot. I found that it takes about 3-6months after the air layer is removed to see that it is growing new leaves so it might make it.

No one needs to put down any payment for these until I say it is ready to ship out and you can change your mind at that time if you don't want to purchase it.

How big do they need to be to survive the heat? I do know some people in Houston protect lychee during the winter and have big trees and it makes me want to try, but with this year's heat wave I even lost figs 😢
