set a trap to catch
id put hot sause around area and hot pepper flakes around base of tree

Wrap the trunk in a tube of plastic like those for sale signs you get at Home Depot. Hold it together with duct tape.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have stuff to protect the trunk with (never had a loquat tree attacked before, so I didn't bother). I'm worried about the tree itself with that much damage. Anything I should do for the tree? Spray copper on it? Thanks!
