Nameiwa vs. Nordmann Seedless
« on: February 08, 2024, 02:55:51 AM »
How is Nameiwa (cross between Meiwa and Nagami) compared to Nordmann Seedless in regard of taste?

I have never seen Nameiwa for sale and so never tasted the fruit, but a cross between Nagami and Meiwa sounds like a good tasting kumquat.

Nordmann Seedless Nagami tastes exactly like regular seeded Nagami to me.

I agree with Brian, just tasted these kumquats in the last week or so.

1. Nagami
2. Nordmann
3. Meiwa
4. Marumi

The Nagami and Nordmann tastes indentilcal but the Nordmann has larger fruits and was seedless. I ate the Nagami from two different sources (friends trees), and the Meiwa is from my grafted tree.

I'll find the photos I took and post it later for you. The Marumi fruit I tasted with the others again at the UCR/CCPP grove (Research grove at Riverside).

Of these 4 kumquats I ate, the best tasting  (sweetest) was the Marumi.

I am really astonished that Marumi tasted better than Meiwa.

Same here. that is why I never grafted it on my trees. I wonder if it is sweeter because they have it growing in Riverside, and I'm in Fullerton CA. Their location gets much warmer than my yard.

I have some photos now so I will post it soon.
