Tropical Fruit Discussion / Forum Banner Image

Is the image on the top of the forum saying Tropical Fruit Forum not displaying for everyone else also?

A few forum members have messaged me regarding their posts and messages from the 9th being missing.

I was told that was caused by GoDaddy moving our hosting. The move took about a day, so everything that was posted after the move started was not transferred when the move was completed.

I don't think there was a way around that issue.

I just wanted to let everyone know about the issue so no one would think that we intentionally deleted their posts and messages from that day.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Two new types of spam in the forum
« on: October 18, 2020, 12:17:04 PM »
I have noticed two new types of spam in the forum that are more covert that the spam we used to receive.

The first type is much more subtle and appears to be written by bots. They make a new account and post a reply to a very old post. The reply doesn't usually make much sense but it sometimes related to the topic. Look at the last post in this thread to see an example: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=22050.msg17825

The second type is much less subtle and I think it is much worse in the long run. An inactive users account was compromised and most of his posts were replaced with a link. http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=722

If anyone notices either of these two types of posts, please report it.

Thanks!

I've been waiting for this for almost 7 years now (http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=8308.0) and they are finally available!

They decided to go with the name Pinkglow which I think sounds better than the previous name, Rose.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / USDA Permit Question
« on: April 18, 2019, 01:26:16 PM »
I am in the process of renewing my USDA permit for the importation of plant material (not small lot of seed), and they now want me to list every scientific name that I may be importing. In the past I was able to have a blanket permit for all admissible nursery stock.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Here is the message the USDA sent me:

"Your application cannot be processed as presented. Applications require scientific names of the material intended to import. "Admissible nursery stock of seed and other plant material not subject to postentry quarantine or prohibited from various approved countries in accordance with 7 CFR 319.37" is not an acceptable scientific name."

Does anyone have any seeds or scions of high quality soursop cultivars or know anyone sources for them? Thanks!

Where can I buy cherimoya fruit online that will ship to Florida? If I could get Pierce cherimoya that would be ideal.

I am giving away one $20 gift certificate to anyone on the forum who has never been to Tropical Acres Farms before. The gift certificate is good only for local pickup of the mangos not for shipping. It also expires this mango season so you will need to use it very soon as mango season is almost over.

Post here and I will select a winner on Wednesday.

Edit: I just spoke to the owner of Tropical Acres Farms, forum user Squam256, and he told me that they are currently only open by appointment only on weekday afternoons.

I haven't used my refractometer since 2012 or 2013 so I figured I'd sell it. I bought it in 2012. Here is the Amazon link for it: https://www.amazon.com/Hanna-Instruments-Digital-Refractometer-Analysis/dp/B002NX0WHI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1528643356&sr=8-3&keywords=hanna+instruments+refractometer&dpID=41ym8V%252BdS9L&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

I'll sell it for $110 including shipping to anywhere in the US. I still have the original box and manual.

Here is a link to a post that I used it in: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=457.0

Edit: SOLD

I am considering selling the lychee fruit from my tree and shipping it via Priority Mail but I am not sure of the best way to package the fruit to ensure they survive the shipping. I was thinking about putting them in a plastic bag first but I think being in a sealed bag would ruin the fruit in the heat.

If the box even gets slightly squished in transit, it would probably crack all of the fruit.

I have about 100lbs of Mauritius still on my tree that I would like to sell this week, ship by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
