Citrus General Discussion / Re: Giant Key Lime
« on: September 12, 2023, 07:06:00 PM »
I bought mine from Harris Citrus in FL years ago.  Their website seems to have disappeared, they might only exist on Facebook now (I am unable to see)

It looks like they've closed permanently. Thanks though. I will continue searching.

Does anyone know of a nursery in Florida that sells Giant Key Lime trees?

Why don't we stick to the name "atemoya" to avoid any confusion?  Isn't the real custard apple annona reticulata?  I know the Aussies call annona cherimola x squamosa (atemoya) custard apple.

Unless we are using the scientific name, people can use whichever common name they wish. Iíd prefer people reference the scientific name at some point in their posts though to avoid confusion.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How many people eat mango skin?
« on: August 10, 2023, 10:26:58 PM »
For fresh mango...I don't. But curried mango....yesss!!! I've been eating ripe sapodilla skins tho while enjoying the fruit though (Alano and Silas Woods).

The skin on preserved mangos and salt mango are also pretty good.

I havenít been able to find good salt mango for ages though. I used to find this one type that had a somewhat purple skin that wasnít too salty. Now a days, Iíve only found the ones that are very orange and super salty.

Zinc has been in my top 2 over the last few seasons.
Once my tree started fruiting its been hard to eat anything else.
LZ has been the other.

Earlier this week I traded Future a Zinc for a Lemon Zest he got from FLNative.

Iím new here :) are you hosting a feast?

I think he should.

Sasa and Josť Pabůn from Puerto Rico.  Big and tasty and doesn't suck the moisture out of your mouth like many do.

I agree. These are two of the best cultivars I've had.

I think those varieties may also self-pollinate compared to seedlings and many other cultivars which need both male and female trees.

I tried the few a few times a few years ago and it was probably the best tasting jackfruit Iíve ever had. Hopefully the fruit is consistently that good.

When we started the forum it used to have a Google search add on, but it stopped working a few years ago and we never fixed it.

I think it stopped working after one of the SMF updates.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Amber Jackfruit seeds
« on: July 11, 2023, 03:11:00 PM »
I am sure it is and just wondering if it stayed like its mother.

Mike,

I just clicked the link in FLNatives post and page 4 shows a pic of the fruit: https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=18880.75

Does that look like the original Amber?

Did the mother tree's fruit have crisp orange flesh?

I think they might be fruit from a seedling grown from seeds you sent to Florida years ago.

When you move to Savannah, buy a grafted mango tree from a nursery such as Tropical Acres Farm. Donít waste time with a seedling.

That should give you good quality fruit much sooner than a seedling.

I donít think a mango tree will survive outdoors in the ground easily in Savannah. You could try to possibly put up a mini greenhouse over it every winter and then keep the tree small enough to remain under the greenhouse.

Thanks for the info! I went today and bought a few fruit and some crowns from him.

He said the fruit were either MD-2 or his hybrid. He said they were mixed together and since they look similar he couldnít tell me for sure which fruit I bought but he said Iíd be able to tell which one is which based on the taste.

The crowns he sold for $1 each and they were for his hybrid.

Good news and thanks! Can you get the forum background color turned back to green? The way it was? I find it more friendly than the gray we now have and thanks!

The green was a template and it is not compatible with the current version but we are looking into other compatible template options.

I preferred the green as well.

I see email notifications are working again... Thanks!

Kevin

You're welcome. Without my inspiration, Patrick would not have fixed it.

My friend gifted a supposedly Mahachanok 5 years ago from Excalibur, there was also a label that listed the name and date of said variety. Removed fruit first few years so didnít think anything of it. Last year it fruited but fruit dropped. This year it has a lot of fruit but itís a malikka, not a Mahachanok, I hope itís as good as some say, because i sure do like eating Mahachanok.

Are you sure itís a Mallika? Post pics.

I changed the settings a few months ago to limit editing of posts after a certain time. I did that because a member with a few hundred posts account was stolen and every post was replaced with a spam link.

I want to keep a happy balance between preventing spam and allowing members to edit their sales posts.

Any suggestions? I think I have it currently set at 6 months.

There was a change to the spam filter and it apparently blocked entire domains/hosts or something. I think it has been fixed now though.

Hi Patrick. You came up to speed fast on what to expect from GoDaddy :)
What Malware did they remove? Did you have scripts that were uploaded?? PM me with whatever GoDaddy sent you on the malware removal, I'm very curious what it could be.

Mod/Admin access to SMF doesn't allow me to do much of anything, I'd need access to your hosting account. There are several steps I would take right now, but SMF is also about to release a stable version 2.1 (they are on RC4, can't imagine there are many bugs left to squish). We can wait until that's released and do it all at once. We can get on a call to discuss the details, PM me if you want.

Spammers like you have on here now are tough to stop in an automated fashion. You have an image captcha and 3 challenge questions on the registration form, so it's (likely) real people signing up and posting the nonsense. There are a couple ways I know of to fight these guys, but I'm not sure what plugins SMF has available. Quick search gave me this one, looks promising: https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3851
Active moderators (you trust) that have the ability to delete posts and ban/suspend users are your best bet for an easy fix.

I added one of those spam stoppers for the forum a few years ago that worked pretty well for a while. I think the recent upgrades seemed to have removed the filter.

Is the image on the top of the forum saying Tropical Fruit Forum not displaying for everyone else also?

Same here. Someone needs to fix this.

It will take some time for Google to reindex the content of our site is what the hosting company is telling me.  We moved from a much older, slower, and smaller database version.  We had no choice, as the company and web in general are moving to the newer version. This site is over 10 years old and delicate.  Sorry for any loss of data, there was no way to preserve everything without spending money.  We should be good for now, and Google will reindex us in time.

We are only 9 years old!
