Is My Mango Tree Trying To Tell Me Something?
« on: August 02, 2022, 08:52:40 AM »
My Pickering gave me a good crop this season.  Plenty of fruit, and after a bland handful of mangos to start the season, they were positively stinkin' delicious.  Now, I'm looking at the tree and I'm seeing a lot of leaves that indicate something is wrong.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Older leaves can get ugly and fall off.  You'll probably have a growth flush soon. If the tree looks healthy in general, I don't think you have anything to worry about.  You had a great crop this year so it's time to stop thinking you have a brown thumb!

Hi, John.  I am starting to see a few growth flushes, but the pattern on some of those leaves has me concerned.  Could be my brown thumb mentality. :-\

The leaves are dark green and look ok. Maybe you can cut back on nitrogen
if you are giving nitrogen? I have a pickering also and the old leaves don't look
different then yours. I would be concerned if the new growth has issues

Haven't sprayed anything.  About two weeks ago I gave a feeding of 8-3-9 fertilizer and some pelletized gypsum.  I have used both previously without any problems.  I also fed both to my Honey Kiss tree and it isn't showing any similar symptoms.  Just took a look at the new growth flush and they all appear vigorous and healthy.

When I had both an Angie and a Pickering tree, the Angie would lose a ton of leaves every summer, but it never seemed to affect the health of the tree.  The Pickering tree, on the other hand, kept its leaves.  I still don't think you have anything to worry about.  I've seen other mango trees drop leaves in the summer.
