It seems like info is sketchy on this species.  How large are the seeds (is there a good pulp to seed ratio)?  How does the flavor compare with mamoncillo? -- one source I see says it is sweeter.

The flesh/seed ratio it would be like a Rambutan probably the flavor is the same than mamoncillo but sweeter and no astringency at all; yes I know very few info on this species lot of people would think is Bijugatus but is not as Im familiar with two of them; perhaps the real name is not even M. Oliviformis I just see it with that name in the PDF of fruits of that state but in other places they corelate melicoccus oliviformis with talisia oliviformis(which is another tree from sud america with yellow fruits) or with the most known Mel. bijugatus

It looks like a cross between Talisia oliviformis and Melicoccus bijugatus.

Interesting, talisia oliviformus and melicoccus oliviformus seem to be synonyms. Considering both are dioecious its possible they hybridised.  Talisia esculenta seems to overlap with melicoccus bijugatus and I cant find any record of them hybridising though.

Interesting fruit!   The leaves look like talisia esculenta's leaves. Maybe, another hybrid ready to be propagated.
Thank you for the information!

A while back I got an entire box full of Mamoncillo sent to me from Puerto Rico, the fruits taste wise were one of the best fruits I have encountered, texture wise like a really stringy, fibrous mango. The seeds look like a tiny avocado seed and are propagated similarly. The trees grow slow for me at least, a two year old specimen being only 6 inches tall. I would go for it if I were you guys, they are quite interesting and are somewhat rare.

Hi they are quiet adaptable, they grow from tropical Chiapas all the way up to outside the tropics Tuxpan, Veracruz were it gets down in winter to 5/7 Celsius....

Here they grow fast,  probably  around 4 to 5 years from seed, you probably has the same weather than here at sea level, don't know how much change with the elevation but don't think alot.....

Any chance someone has the tree grafted and for sale?

If not, I may want some seeds also.  How long on average before the seedlings begin fruiting?
