Jackfruit varieties with least latex?
« on: August 11, 2021, 02:01:54 PM »
I am planning on planting a jackfruit tree. I like all kinds of jackfruit flavors and textures. What I am most interested in is a tree that is easy to keep healthy that produces a nice yield of fruit with low latex. Any recommendations?

Mike did you mean j 30?

My j 31 has tons of latex. Taste fine and produces a lot but it has plenty of latex

the riper the fruit is the less latex it has. in my experience. So learn how to pick the fruit at the right time.

agree that jackfruit x champedak  have low latex.

Riper fruit has less latex, but I found that putting a fruit in a cooler and covering it with ice to chill it prior to cutting greatly reduces latex bleed. Just work as quickly as possible to get the fruit halved while it is still cold, and then almost all of bleeding that does occur will be directly from the exposed core.

I've tried this and it helps a little.
If i wait until its total "ripe" and can rip it apart and avoid cutting the core altogether but i don't really like the soft texture at that point.

I prefer the firm/crunchy type
