Is the topaz one of your own that you named? I don't think I've heard of many named varieties of pitangatuba. I'd definitely be interested in a named variety, how do they taste?

I think more people need to start sharing their best seedlings to start selectively breeding. Mark Albert said that each successive generation of feijoa seemed to have major improvements from his own seedlings. I don't see why we couldn't do the same with pitangatuba.

Yes it's a selected seedling... and definitely the best tasting one I have grown.
I've been growing them from seed for years now. Looking for a tasty specimen.
Most are just too sour to eat.
I had just about given up on Pitangatubas until I found this one.
Nice dark-green, dense growth with lots of blooms too... and a nice sweet taste.
I started grafting Topaz last year and again this Spring.
Have a few to share now and more coming soon...

Come on, cousin! You got a sweet pintanga goober and you didn't bring none to the family reunion. We gotta talk. Mine was so sour I got rid of 'em. If possum and a 'coon won't eat 'em, I wont either! Put me down for one.

Pitangatuba has always struck me as having potential.
Beautiful appearance. Nice, large, juicy, colorful fragrant fruit.
But sour as hell.

Anyone tried eating the pitangatuba after a miracle fruit?

Any insight on self-fertile fruit set? Does good on it's own or does it help to have another pitangatuba to pair with it?
Continuing my journey to disprove those who say "You can't grow that in the desert" since 2013.

I have 3 fruiting Topaz plants right now... The Original Mother and 2 grafted plants.
All are setting fruit... but they are growing in the middle of a Ptang orchard of 10 flowering cousins.
Bumble bees are very busy...
