My rootstocks weren't thick enough, so better than chucking them away...I have 3 pencil sized scions to trade (preferably to someone how has rootstocks to graft).

Very unique Pouteria to have in any collection...do a quick search on the forum and see the tree.

Hi, Finally got to taste Pouteria sebertii. The flavour is sweet, with a texture of Lucuma or Canistel.

This Pouteria sp is native to New Caledonia...it's a long way from home, though doing pretty well here in Madeira Island. 

I found another tree today...this one was pretty massive and was lucky enough to find a ripe fruit on the ground.

Here's what I harvested yesterday!  Worked my ass off...but, the bounty was worth it! 

Apple banana, Colombian Granadilla, Crunchy white guava, Spineless Lulo(love the smell of the fruit), Juá Açú(very nice, tangy flavour), two types of banana passion fruit(large Colombian and local), Surinam cherries, Cape gooseberries, Thai Gourmet Chilli and 2 types of sugar cane.

Background orchids are Cymbidium, Vanda and Paphiopedilum.

This tree started flowering after two years in the ground!  I actually expected this tree to flower in about 5 years being in the highlands...also this tree didn't even drop a single leaf during winter , compared to my 10+ year old tree, which did slowly drop them leaves Looks like a bit of love(irrigation and fert)...goes a long way

The seeds came from a fruit, I bought in the supermarket from Brazil...don't know the cultivar, but I got to say...seeds from an improved commercial white guava variety, sure didn't take very long to flower I also planted  a tree from the same batch of seeds, in my orchard in Calheta, which is double the size now...though, I didn't see any flowers the last time I was there...hopefully, this tree will start to flower soon

The method am about to share, was passed down from my uncle...then to my dad, 20+ years ago...then to me...now i'm happy to pass the knowledge down to you This method is very easy and can be used for any fruit tree you wish to propagate...it has been down to kumquat and stonefruits, with flying colours This method is great for hot and dry climates, since it keeps the graft cool and moist



A scion was selected with buds that are nice and swollen. Scions should be harvest when the mother tree is getting active and buds are almost about to vegetate or break dormancy.


Scion prepared for insertion. For those who haven't grafted before, please take your time and do it properly...so that your first time isn't unpleasant and painful 


Cut in the middle of the rootstock, which will make a wedge, for inserting the scion or wood. The rootstock is a sucker that sprouted last year...when life gives you a sucker, graft on it



Insert the scion into the wedge...make sure to align the cambium layers, on both the scion and the rootstock...the cambium cells will start to divide...then a union will be formed and sealed, within few weeks.



The material I used for binding the scion to the rootstock, is cut up supermarket plastic bags. Neatly roll the plastic, like you would a pancake(pancake, with cinnamon and sugar...hmmm ) and cut 1 inch long sections is enough...I like to fold each strip in half, for extra ''strength'' for binding the graft


Cut the bottle and insert...then pop a few stones into the bottle and insert one below, to secure the bottle so that it doesn't foofy slide down the roostock


Fill the bottle with soil till top of the graft, (with soil, peat or sand...any soil ya have at your disposal) and water the bottle...Don't let the soil dry out, water now and then.



Voila  when the shots get at lest 10in...the bottle can be carefully removed..I like to use a hot wire to remove the bottle.

Biologists of the Cambucás Project was developed in Rio de Janeiro, with the intent of preserving this  majestic specie, with the rounded canopy and strong branched that is native to the Atlantic Forest. Manmade deforestation, puts the fruit tree in danger of extinction. The long time before coming into production, makes the cambucá a non commercial fruit, which aggravates the problem. The first fruits begin to appear by the age of 15 and 18 years old.

A survey conducted by the biologist Fabian Correa, coordinator of the Project Cambucás in Cantagalo, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, showed that there are eight specimens of the tree on private land, in the rural area and nearby areas. On a farm in the region, which is from 19th century, has only two cambucá trees.

The project coordinator says that the goal is to increase the number of trees. "One of the ideas of the project is to rescue the cambucá's that are present in backyards, so that we will have more and more locations with the this tree...farms and backyards with cambucá" says Fabian.

The cambucá is in the same family as Jabuticaba and there are several common features between the two. One being the slow growth. In areas of dense forest, the cambucá tree can reach 10m/33ft tall, but the size of the tree is a bit smaller when cultivated in orchards. Each fruit has a single seed and germination takes about 40 to one hundred days, after the seed has been planted. The first fruits begin to appear when the tree is about 15 or 18 years old. The fruits appear generally in the months of December and January, but some trees bloom later.

Eating the fruit little known and is becoming a privilege for those who have the opportunity to experience the cambucá fruit. Besides being tasty, the fruit is very important for the ecological balance. According to experts, many species feed on cambucá.

The owner of a site, Thaís Campanate says that she has taken special care not to let the tree die. She also supports the project and says that she has planted more trees on site.
