Restocked Now! 🌱🍇
We've just restocked some rare tropical treasures — here's a quick rundown of what’s back and why they’re worth growing:
1. Abiu-mirim (Chrysophyllum viride) 🍮
This is the sweetest of the aguai species, though still milder than the common abiu (Pouteria caimito). Native to Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, it grows up to 25 m tall and tolerates light frosts (down to –6 °C). The round fruits (3–4 cm) have a soft, translucent pulp with a gentle, tropical sweetness. Perfect to enjoy fresh or in juice.
2. Eugenia subterminalis (cambuí pitanga) 🍒
A rare gem from the araucaria forests of South America. This bushy shrub (2–4 m) produces juicy, red berries with a sweet punch, great for jellies, juices or eating straight from the plant. A must for Eugenia collectors!
3. Giant Piray Jaboticaba 🌳
A unique jaboticaba from the Piray River area in Argentina. It produces large (up to 4 cm) sweet fruits directly on the trunk and branches. Intense flavor, great pulp-to-seed ratio, and it can fruit multiple times a year — including in late autumn! 🍷
4. Annona parviflora (araticú da praia) 🍈
Native to coastal rainforests, this small tree gives creamy white fruits with a custard-like texture and notes of mango. Drought- and salt-tolerant, it’s a delicious and resilient choice for tropical and subtropical gardens.
5. Arazá johvy (Psidium aff. guineense) 🌼
A large-fruited wild guava from South America with juicy, sweet-acidic pulp. The plant is tough, adaptable, and medicinal. Excellent for fresh eating or turning into refreshing drinks!
6. Arazá serrano (Psidium longipetiolatum) 🌿
From the Atlantic Forest highlands, this guava has aromatic, lemony-tasting fruits. It’s cold hardy and ornamental, with bright foliage and abundant fruit from January to March.
7. Hybrid Arazá (P. guineense × P. grandiflorum) 🍹
Combines cold resistance, low seed count, and incredible pulp flavor. Tastes like a sweet caramel-acid guava fusion — amazing in jams or juices, and super easy to grow in many climates.
