It's a cherimoya, Playa. Atemoya has mutant looking skin especially the African pride. Cherimoya has flat and symmetrical skin and bumps.

My Alano sets fruits with no issues. I believe sapodillas need humidity to set fruits. In order to increase humidity around my sapodillas, I planted a bunch of Mexican sunflowers and installed misters (foggers) to each tree. I have my foggers on twice a day. I use these types of nozzles because I have a surplus of them. Used to install them in our commercial greenhouse operations. But you don't have to use these types. Any foggers from Amazon would do. Good luck.

I am from the Redlands area of southern California. I have successfully fruited sapodillas. No hand pollination. However, I do have misters to provide humidity and aid in pollination (maybe).

Here are some of the mango trees from my friend's house. He has over 40 varieties grafted on turpentine and planted in the ground from 15 to 45 plus gallon. He lives about a mile down the hill from my place. He's very successful with growing mangoes on turpentine rootstock in California. Growing mangoes on turpentine rootstock can be done in southern California. Unlike him, I don't have the patience and can only grow seedlings. I also a bunch of them on my plot. We live in the Redlands area. Enjoy.

👍 I am curious too. I just planted some sweet tart seeds in the ground and they are starting to sprout now. I am planning to cover them in the winter. Thanks.

That's awesome! We used to farm for a living. We had multiple wells and 6 5000 gallon storage tanks with 10 100 gallon pressurized tanks and two massive pumps to move water throughout the farm. Don't go cheap on wells and equipment especially with 60 acres of land. Good luck.

I am not sure, but I planted 3-4 different varieties within a 10x30 space. I am a dumb horticulturist, but I think this grouping of sapodilla would help me with pollination and fruiting.
By the way, I also have Haysa. Hope that helps.

Hello mate,

I am near Riverside. Mango is still elusive for me, but I could grow pretty much everything here. Talking about mangoes and jabocotiba, let me introduce you to my friend, hawkfish007, but his forum name should have been socalfruitemperor. I'd consider him king of mangoes and jabocotiba in southern California. He's been very successful with them. He has all of the top varieties here. As for me, I am still struggling with VP, NDM, and LZ.

Congratulations! You're definitely mango king. You have successfully grown turpentine roostck mangoes in southern California. That's no easy task. I live practically near to you and have failed at growing mangoes here.

I guess your success proves that there's no such thing as turpentine vs Manila rootstock. It is all boiled down to grower's dedication and techniques.

We have Calypso mango in Dubai. It's not a bad mango, but it's a little bland. Possibly pick too early.
