"Lac Balsam" Artificial Bark
« on: July 26, 2019, 04:53:50 PM »
A nurseryman recommended a product called Lac Balsam for treating wounds on trees.
Specifically i have some cracking bark due to sun injury, and he highly recommended this stuff.

I searched the forum and found no hits.

Anyone ever heard of or used this stuff?

I didn't see it on Amazon - seems harder to come by.

Interested to know more as well.  I have heard conflicting recommendations on sound sealing, with some people saying the sealants promote moisture retention, rot, and keep the tree from healing over the area.

Its verry good but expensive .The trees heal faster and grow a lot faster than without it.
For a tree that has cracks on the bark i wouldnt worry thogh. The resin is for treating big wounds that leak sap.
On big wounds ,you can also make a bark transplant to help them heal faster.
Here is one from ebay  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tanglefoot-Tree-Pruning-Sealer-Can-with-Brush-Cap-/273627870634

Yep I didn’t realize wound compound use was controversial, but I see that it is.
I talked with other long-time nurserymen that avoid it.
Makes sense that except for extreme situations, plants should be left to their own healing processes. So many times our interventions make things worse (this applies broadly to Nature!)
