Title: Do you need to thin Babaco?
Post by: elouicious on January 26, 2022, 11:12:40 AM
I am in the fortunate position to have had a lot of Babaco set in these past couple months-

I am wondering if you ever need to thin them?

the Tree is a little over 1 year old and is already holding 2 fruit from the last flowering that are getting to be about the size of my hand

They can hold a pretty heavy rack of big fruits. If you top them after fruiting they can branch out pretty good too.

Was hoping you would show up  :P

I cant seem to find much beyond "trees can produce 30-60 fruit per year" so I guess I will just let nature take its course and make some green papaya salad with the ones that fall

If they have any sign of yellow you can pick and counter ripen to full yellow.

Cheers!

Have you ever compared counter ripened to on the tree?

I really don’t see, smell or taste a difference.

Cheers!
