I don't think so, also since it's a seedling, it would be variable.
Better to buy some nice grafted trees from Lara farms!

27
Never mind lol.

@Jaboticaba45
Not sure if it helps, but I placed them on my hand so you can have an idea of the size of its leaves.

Ok no, I was tripping.
It is not black sapote :P
Definitely looks soapberry type

I don't see any damage...Maybe you're seeing the graft line.
Or moisture buildup around the base.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best Self Fertile Sapodilla
« on: March 10, 2024, 12:24:14 AM »
I believe they are all self fertile.
Just like some trees they may need a little push in the beginning.
My alano sets just fine by itself.
Butterscotch is a good one I hear, but I think a lot of people like makok too.

Yep,
Brian is a great guy and he travels a lot.
8 days is not a wait lol.
I've waited over 6 months for some stuff...lol

I haven't done much grafting. It is interesting that no one here is recommending rubber strips for tightening the union. Does this not have merit?
I've seen people do it, but the rubber tends to degrade is what I've noticed.

Ryan,

Can you post the photo of your variegated sapodilla. I have a seedling plant that I grafted the butterscotch that I would trade with you. My seedling plant that is grafted with butterscoth is only a year old but it looks fine.
For you Kaz

Send me a pm!

The first post on the PGA group on FB has a picture of my fully ripened p.eugeniafolia/myrtoides.
I used to not like it due to the big seeds and bitter skin, but fully ripened it (soft rind too) tasted like a nice passion fruit.
It's a keeper for me!

Hey Ryan we have butterscotch sapodilla.  It flowers like crazy but has not held any fruit yet.  We've had it for a few years, we bought 2.  One of them got frost damaged and died below the graft line and this is the other one.  Let me know if you want to give it a try.
I'm down!
You can send me a message on messenger...Let's talk!

if you get 0/40, maybe the timing is off.
I've talked to nursery growers and propagators down south, and even they have seen results like that when trying off season.

I would say my favorite tape is buddy tape.
But parafilm works just as good.
To get a tight union on stuff like jaboticabas, I will use the green plant tie tape over the union.
Keep in mind though that mangos and annonas don't like it as tight, although it needs to be tight...it's a balance. With those plants, I just twist the parafilm sideways and wrap it like a cord to get the strength needed.

Make sure to store them in a cool dark dry place or else the tapes will degrade. I realize I will buy new tapes each year even though I haven't used them all.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cecropia Peltata Growth Rate
« on: March 07, 2024, 04:45:57 PM »
It very well could...I have seen trees smaller than that fruit, but they were rooted cuttings.
As for taste, it is a mid fruit, but looks very interesting.
Sweet but weird texture as it's very slimy.
I put a few in a bag and a few hours later they basically turned to water.

I have sri K I can send you.  What diametere you looking for?
Best,
Ryan

There are few fruiting trees in FL,
namely the fruit and spice park one and a couple I know at my friend's place.
Unfortunately there are not any named varieties, and to my knowledge, most of them descended from the Fruit and spice park tree.
I have tried fruits from both, and there are some differences. But my friend's seeding selection was probably the better one. I do not know of anyone grafting them down there. But it is definitely worth looking into.
