Lula Avocado
« on: November 20, 2019, 08:22:54 PM »
Just finished topping the big tree.  Lowered the height by 5 feet..  Harvest was about 80 fruit.  Great tasting cado but enough is enough.  Will be bringing a few boxes to the Treasure Coast Rare Fruit club tomorrow night.   As I've said before --- great tasting little fruit!!!

If it has a unique sweet taste it's a Lula

Blessed be the man who plants a tree knowing he will never live to enjoy it's fruit or shade.

My Lula have a longer slender neck.  I'm harvesting now -- any takers?

Lula that I'm used to have a definite bell shape to them. That could be Lula. The telltale sign if you are on the fence is that Lula is SWEETER than most

I have seen many Lula trees fruiting.  Some have necks of varying lengths and sone have a stump as in the picture above.  What is the giveaway to me is the size if t ge seed (from the cavity), flesh color and consistency and the skin texture.  I know of no other Florida grown avocados with that skin texture.

I will say that it is very early in the season to have a ripe Lula.  In Florida, at least Southern Florida, Lula season is December through January and can even hang into February.

How cold tolerant is the lula variety? I'm in N. FL. I picked up a small lula in spring and it put on a lot of growth. Alas, it was washed away by Hurricane Sally. Would like to find a replacement if it can handle below freezing temps.
