When do you all start letting Garcinias get direct full/partial sun, like is there a good rule of thumb for age or height?  All my garcinia seedlings are basically in full shade.  Also some rodent chewed up my Frankies Unknown garcinias, they only had a couple leaf sets so now its just a bare green stem, any chance you think they can come back? Very green still but was not sure if they will do anything to make a comeback right now since it is winter.

from what ive heard theres still hope until it dies. ive got a magnifolia with no leaves and a half dead stem and then a JW madrono with no leaves which im holding out hope for. its always the rarest ones that dont make it never the lemon drops. just put it out back somewhere so it dosent make you sad when you look at it and check it in about a year.

I wouldent let a garcinia get full sun until its at least 6ft high and they have enough leaves that each of the leaves shade each other but i live where there is extremely intense sun. if your in somewhere with alot of cloud cover they will fare alot better

All my garciinias get some direct sun, even small seedlings. They also get shade at different times of the day, and lots of water. They can tolerate more sun, if getting enough water.

What kind of fertilizer does everyone use? I had been using fish emulsions, mycorhyzae powder, molases, worm tea every 3 weeks but Ive been slacking. Plants are still looking good. Was thinking I would use the foxfire grow big liquid fertilizer in the trash can when spring hits to try n make it easier on the wallet.

Ohip, thanks for the picture of the garneriana. The leaves are definitely more fat in the middle than all my achachairu trees. I had been wondering if what I had was really achacha or not. Seems all the nurseries and seed sellers are on track selling the Bolivian mangosteen and not gardneriana.

My largest achachairu I just planted in ground a few weeks ago. Dusted with some D.E. for sunscreen.

These are shaded now, but get full sun later in the day:

Got a couple that i could use an ID or more information on

First is from a planting from macrophylla close poximity to many other garcinias and suspected cross pollination as all the plants from same planting of seeds are different. i have 5 macrophylla from the same source and they are all different. no idea what it is but its different to anything else i have and the leaves are 1/3rd the size of my other macrophylla

This one was sold to me as a "new" lemon drop without much other description. wish i had bought more as they are different to anything else i have. possibly one of the JW garcinias

and then just some flush on one of my buttons and russels sweet

Thanks Timbo!

Here's a shot of one of our butterfly garden areas, with garcinias mixed in:

Achachairu

Seashore

Intermedia

2 Lucs

Found I can squeeze more trees in if integrated into the landscape, as my wife doesn't want an orchard.

That looks fitting for them. I'm going to work an area into the front yard like that one day so it's more of a jungle and less to mow. Nice to look at also. There getting big too! I bet you have dreams of eating fruit from them, I know I do sometimes 😆 🤣

Bought some seeds in September, have 2 plants pushing their 3rd set of leaves. One of the faster growing varieties in my experience.

Nothing super exciting but thinking my regular lemon drop is starting to set fruit.

First lemon drop was exciting for me, Thefatcuban, as the first garcinia I have grown to fruit.  My first two fruits were runts but the next few were bigger.  They are nice tasting and the plant is easy to care for.  I am looking forward to my achachairu and hombronianas (seashore) flowering soon as they look large enough.

Impressive!
My lemon drop is pretty big but somehow got some dieback this summer...
I'm a big fan of the flavor, of course though, flesh to seed ratio isn't good, but it's a pretty straightforward garcinia to grow.

Bought 11 more achacha trees this week; bringing me up to a total of 25 I believe. Supply is becoming my limiting factor in filling up my orchard. Here’s some pics of the ones planted out and here’s the one I have in my patio. Water every day and full sun for all of them is ideal in my experience. I bought my first tree from a lady who grew them in the shade over a year ago. I put it in full sun and it burned a little but bounced back and has been explosively growing. I went back a few weeks ago to pick up the other 2 trees she had for sale (same size as mine originally) and mine in full sun surpassed them dramatically.
