The forest assai palm is not under cultivation. It is native to the amazon, near rivers and in areas that are periodically flooded. It is a solitary palm 4-20 m tall. Fruits have a thin fibro carnose mesocarp. Fruits are consumed in their natural state; a high calorie juice called assai wine is made from the mesocarp. It is consumed daily in the amazon region and this has become a popular habit all over the country.

The jussara palm is a fruit bearer, seldom cultivated and seriously threatened in its natiral habitat..

It is a palm with a solitary trunk 5-12 m tall . Fruits have a thin and fibro-carnose mesocarp. Fruits are consumed "au naturel", as the mesocarp is prepared as a high calorie juice. Canned crownshaft is much appreciated as a table legume, and known as palmheart
