Title: Cleft Grafting Red Jabo onto Sabara

Another grafting video I was working on the last few days: putting some red hybrid onto my sabara cocktail tree. Lately I've been getting good takes on all the scions from members here so hopefully this gives you some confidence to give it a shot.

The cocktail tree now has açu paulista from Palologrower, Grimal from Jonah, and red hybrid from my tree which I just pruned.

I grafted the "Red" on my in the ground Sabara, and the scion really struggles. I think it really needs lower pH water and peat moss. The truncifolia grafts grow amazing and the mother tree is fine.

I have more trouble with reds than sabara by a long shot. The only way I've had success with reds is acidifying my water and being on top of feeding with micro nutrients. Sabara doesn't care much. I had good success with just espoma acidifier granules on top and that was enough for the season till the roots came out the pot into the CA alkaline soil and it went chloritic.

Neat vid, can I ask how you acidify your water? I'm in a similar condition in AZ

I was going to do a short video on that, but realize I need a new PH meter. You'll need one for figuring out your baseline and how much acidifier to add. I've been using Advanced Nutrients phosphoric acid which comes in quarts, gallons or six gallon jugs. Just 1ml is enough to treat 2.5 gallons from 8.1 to 5.5 to 6.0  - I use a pipette and a regular ol watering can and take that out to the jabo(s).

Ok that was the idea I was going to try out. I just got a bottle of ph corrector from "general hydroponics" and a ph meter last month. It didn't list any directions on the bottle and I didnt have time conduct any tests. Now I have to find the will to do it this weekend instead of lazily just opening up the tap for water. Thanks for the insight.

I started with the GH one but the Advanced Nutrients one is MUCH stronger. When that one runs out, I recommend switching it up. I think I had to use 3-4x more of the GH for my water in comparison. To get the water down to 4.5-5.0 for blueberries it takes 5ml (12ml of GH!) but luckily I don't have to water those like the jabos.

I've also tried the espoma top dress acidifer but... It just doesn't do as well as treating the water.

M.cauliflora and M.jaboticaba are probably the same species so should be compatible.

Thanks for the recommendation K-Rimes. I just went to my local hydroponics store to pick up a jug. I figure its a worthwhile investment for my jabo varities besides the grimal and sabara which are doing okay with my city water.
