Pinkturtle,
Sounds very interesting, can you tell us more information. I can't read Chinese. Thanks

If you're on a computer, you can auto translate it
Basically the article said they crossed lychee and longan to make this new one...
What makes it special is that there is more cold tolerance.
Also taste...

Sounds fishy. Let me read the article but I'll say before I do if this is possible how come it hasn't happened until now? I shall return. ;D

Translating that article took almost as much effort as it took to make that fruit. Interesting.

So based off of a quick read of the article, it seems like this one was made using traditional methods instead of gmo. Looks like China is gonna be keen to not let this one spread out of the country so they can monopolize it. Even so, it would take years until it lands into the US especially with import restrictions (since this is lychee)

Thanks for posting the English, my phone would not translate.

I wonder if it's even any good or if this is all hype? That said it is a shame the Dept. of Agriculture doesn't do like it did in the past and import varieties so that our farmers/citizens can access them.

Considering Chinas laxity about copy and patent I expect the opposite, that it will be widely copied if any good.

I am also a bit of a skeptic, but it's exciting if this is real! I know that Zaiger genetics faced similar odds when trying to generate viable hybrids.
-
To be honest I would rather have access to some of those giant varieties that are already available in Asia.

Embryo rescue (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embryo_rescue)?
This refers to somatic fusion. A type of GMO where you take two cells and fuse them together to create a singe cell with two full sets of genes. This automatically produces a hybrid of the two plants regardless of pollination barriers. Embryo rescue also occurs in a test tube, but the original embryo was formed through natural means of pollination.
