Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Seeds
« on: March 22, 2023, 12:37:44 PM »
Hello again!!! PM sent  :)

2
I have purchased mine from both sources.

You've purchased from Willis Orchards with success?

3
Are you willing to deal with import restrictions?

I've never done that before so I'm not sure what it would entail. Potentially!

4
Thank you!

Willis Orchard doesn't have the best reviews, but I've emailed the other two companies to see when they'll have more trees in stock. Thanks!

Temperate Fruit Buy, Sell, & Trade / ISO prunus mume seeds or plants
« on: February 28, 2023, 01:41:08 PM »
Hello everyone,

I would like to grow prunus mume (Japanese apricot) so that I can pickle my own umeboshi. I'm struggling to find seeds or plants for sale online. I'm located in West Virginia, USA, but am happy to have something shipped. Does anyone know of reliable sellers or someone who might have seeds?

Thanks!

Seeds arrived today! Thank you so much and thanks for all of the extras! Excited to grow all of these!

7
PM sent!

Good to know, thank you! I do often have a problem with them not drying out properly, so I'll try to use a soil with more drainage from now on.

Hello! How long does shipping typically take to US buyers?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Should I top my Ice Cream Bean?
« on: August 25, 2022, 07:16:13 PM »
Hey everyone! Proud owner of a 6 foot Ice Cream Bean tree which I bring in during winter. My issue is that it is only growing a few leaves and growing directly upwards, and getting too tall for my grow lights. If I top it, will it branch out more or just stop growing? Suggestions?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Advice for Starfruit
« on: August 25, 2022, 07:09:13 PM »
Hey everyone! I've tried to grow Starfruit from seed four times now with no luck. The seeds always sprout fine and grow fine for several weeks, and then for some reason or other they all die. They just seem to be incredibly sensitive to both too much and too little water, and die very quickly if the conditions aren't right. I've had more success growing cacao indoors than Starfruit. Does anyone have any suggestions? How do I keep these guys happy? Do they get less sensitive with age?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Montoso Gardens A++

Great to hear they're still as impressive as when I ordered from them! I had a great experience with Montoso Gardens a few years ago, ordered a few cacao seeds and they sent me two whole pods! I had a blast eating the pulp off the seeds and they had a high germination rate.

Possibly traveling to Florida this January, haven't decided yet. What fruit varieties are in season in Florida (anywhere in Florida) in January? Particularly interested in rare varieties, but any information you have is helpful!

Ordered PB Fruit, Pitangatuba, and Zills Dark Suriname Cherry just a few weeks ago. All seeds have sprouted now, PB Fruits especially are getting tall. Very happy with this order, thanks!

Thanks, I'll take a look! Is sacred succulents a reputable website? Haven't heard of it before.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / ISO Mangosteen Seeds and Chilean Guava
« on: October 07, 2021, 07:45:12 AM »
Anyone have mangosteen seeds right now? Any variety, special preference to ones that could potentially be grown well in a pot- I know that's tough for Mangosteen.

Right now I have Seashore and Lemondrop Mangosteen seedlings, hoping to test a few more.

I am also looking for Chilean Guava, seeds or plants. One Green World sells them but charges a ridiculous fee for shipping.

My review is a little late, the seeds arrived a week or so ago in good condition, and all of the Peanut Butter Fruit have already sprouted! Thanks again!

Seeds arrived quickly and in good shape, and almost all of them have germinated at this point. Very, very happy with the quality and prices!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: ISO Tamarind and Grumichama seeds
« on: September 19, 2021, 02:10:18 PM »
I bought my tamarind seeds at the local grocery store as fruit in the pods. They sprouted quite easily. Mine bloomed and set fruit for the first time this year in my greenhouse.

As a matter of fact, I have started several of my trees from grocery store fruit. Most of ours comes from Mexico and South or Central America and is not irradiated.

Carolyn

Wow, good to know!! I might go ahead and try this!

My tree has some fruit on it that will ripen in a couple of weeks. Feel free to send a pm if no one else has them available.

Thanks! I'll make sure to let you know! Is it tamarind or grumichama?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Can allspice fruit indoors in a pot?
« on: September 18, 2021, 02:41:32 PM »
I'm doubting that allspice is easily fruitable indoors. Still waiting on flowers here, and our tree is 9 feet or more, outdoors. Seems it would need more intense light and humidity.

Having said that, I would still go for it, and hope you prove me wrong and laugh in my face for doubting.

Beautiful tree, with useful leaves and sticks. Don't need fruit to be worth growing.

I grill with allspice leaves and sticks in the smoker box. Yum

That's great to hear, I didn't know you could use the leaves! Thank you!
