Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lara Farms tree source
« on: March 20, 2022, 10:23:47 PM »
I also wanted to share that I ordered from Lara Farms after seeing such positive reviews. I am not willing to pay so much for mango trees here in SoCal (sometimes I’ll see prices over $300 for a 15 gallon mango tree but the tree itself is so small) and I do not mind buying smaller trees because I’m playing the long game (don’t mind waiting a while before they’re ready to hold fruit). Anyway, the trees arrived in great condition and are currently acclimating to my yard under the shade. I wanted to share pictures of the shipment in case any one else is looking to purchase from Julian and was curious to see how it all looks. I would recommend Lara Farms to anyone looking for smaller grafted mango trees.

I’d recommend Pierce, Dr. White, and El Bumpo!

Mark - great photos thanks for sharing. I was able to taste Ong’s Sour N Sweet and it has an amazing flavor very similar to cherimoya. Its texture is chewy like an atemoya. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to others looking for an atemoya with a cherimoya flavor profile. The only other atemoya I can think of that tastes so similar to cherimoya would be ‘Dream.’

Kaz - scions I purchased from you from this post are doing great. I grafted the Red Himalayan on to an everbearing mulberry rootstock. It’s starting to push new growth but I haven’t seen any fruit yet. Picture below for reference. Thanks again 👍🏼

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Annona Scion For sale or trade
« on: March 02, 2022, 01:56:48 PM »
Bush2Beach is a great seller with quality scions - multiple sizes available with multiple buds per scion and well wrapped too. I ordered Dream scions from him a couple years ago and the tree is doing great. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for cherimoya/atemoya scions 👍🏼 (The pictures below are of the Dream tree grafted onto cherimoya rootstock and a picture of the fruit ((hand pollinated)).

For cherimoyas, that slight color change to yellow/green is a factor I use to determine when to pick!

Sounds like the moyas could have been picked too early.

While the size is impressive, I am in awe of that color, Mike T!. Nice looking caimito.

Here's a picture of the bare-root trees for those inquiring. Thanks again, Ken - you the man!

Hi Kevin,

How would you describe the taste and texture?

Hi B2B, I'm probably late to the party but was wondering if you have any scions still available and any that haven't pushed yet?

Just sent payment. Thanks again for the great work on this!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Birula vs Lisa
« on: April 01, 2021, 02:23:07 PM »
There is someone on Fb selling a variety called “Lisa Pride” and immediately after seeing the photos, I was thinking that it looks very similar to Birula. Here are the photos for reference (they are not my own). What do you think? Could Birula and Lisa Pride be the same?

Thanks for putting this together beicadad. I'd be interested in:

Dongkui: 2 trees
Black Peak: 2 tress

I'm also located in San Diego, CA.

Last year I crossed rollinia with cherimoya and had a single fruit set. It grew to a marble size before aborting. Here's a picture a week or two before that happened.

Thanks for sharing your taste comparison, Mike. Enjoyed the photos too! I would love it if ilamas were more available here in the states (for tasting and growing).

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Problem with annona seedlings
« on: February 26, 2021, 12:58:17 PM »
For future seedings you can also try a well draining mix to help with the soil being too wet. I like to incorporate cactus mix into my soil mixture to help but I have also used just straight cactus mix and the cherimoya and sugar apple seeds have sprouted just fine.

I have four kamias seedlings growing right now but they are in the greenhouse until it gets much warmer outside (day and night temps). Having four gives me opportunities to experiment and I won't feel as bad if I lose one lol. I'll keep you updated on their growth throughout 2021. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

I have B10 at home.  It is sweet and firm at all stage of the fruit from green to orange.  My wife likes the sour one better because it have more flavors and goes greet in salads and spring rolls.  I live in San Diego and it grows fine.

Hey Mikey I haven't been able to locate the B10 here in San Diego. Do you have any suggestions on where to find it? Also, do you do anything special to them during the winter months here or is it outside the whole time?

A word to the wise - try using the search function on the top of the landing page to search for answers to your questions. Like Har mentioned, there have been great discussions on topics in the past which offer great insight. No need to create new threads when previous threads have already been created.  ;)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cold hardiness of dream annona
« on: January 27, 2021, 02:57:58 PM »
Hi Vincent, I grafted a Dream scion (Thanks B2B!) onto a Dr. White cherimoya in the ground and it really took off this past year. The coldest recorded temperature in the yard so far this winter was 45F. The grafted tree is doing well and I let it fruit - the taste is delicious and so if it is an atemoya, it definitely received the tasty-genes from the cherimoya! Maybe another grower can chime in here if they've experienced lower temps.
